Freezing

Okay, so I've had this problem before and my friend that played EQ..Cronto fixed it, but he really didn't tell me what he did.
Now, for some odd reason, after I load up EQ and when I get up to the character selection screen. Everquest freezes on me. If i were to load up the game, the screen will freeze every 5 seconds for a period of 10 to 15 seconds. Can anyone help?

make sure you have the latest video drivers. and that your hard drive isn't filled to 99% capacity with pron
that's all i can think of atm

I have the latest drivers and I have 1 porn! I'm doing a complete virus scan atm.

disable the anti-virus software while playing though. as in actually turn it off and make sure it's not even passively running in the toolbar
how do your other games run btw? if they run fine it's an EQ prob, and you might wanna fiddle with the video settings before and after you log in. if they all experiance some probs, you might wanna try:
go to start...run, and type in "msconfig". go to the startup tab and look for anything that looks like it shouldn't be there. generally you can just type the name of the .exe you suspect in yahoo, and you'll find a page that'll tell you if it's a known problem maker or part of your normal background apps. if you've got like 100 things in the list, you've got problems.
it doesn't sound like windows firewall could be causing it. but make sure that's off too, it's a damn gremlin

I have like barely anything running in the background and no on the firewall. Everquest is the only game I play and it wasn't having any problems until today. It just boom all of a sudden started freezing.
So, I've cleaned my computer
Screwed w/ settings
Updated to Service Pack2
Checked MScong
Made sure nothing was running in background.
I'm running out of ideas.

hit ALT-J in EQ and make sure it isn't checked
it writes a log file of like every NPC you see, every NPC speech, etc etc and causes no end of issues in zones that are busy

I would definitely get another game and see if the freezing persists in it. Or if not a game, download 3dmark05 or 3dmark06 and see if any weirdness happens when you run it.
Need to know if its just an EQ issue or not.
