Router problem

in the past few days my router started fucking up. i've got 3 PC's hooked up to it, and a cable modem connection. its ran fine for years, but now computers going through it can't browse the internet, or do almost anything online

i know it's not a problem with the connecting cables, since i can log on XFire and join multiplayer games with it. but most other programs won't work, AIM, in-game server browsers, etc

hooking the modem directly to a computer works, so my guess it's something in the router settings, since i doubt all the computers got fucked up in exactly the same way at exactly the same time

looking through the settings though, i can't really find anything wrong. i can ping the router, and ping any other computer hooked up to it. but i can't ping anything external. and setting a computer to DMZ mode didn't work either, so i'm pretty sure its not any of the firewall/filter settings

We've had this problem for a while, too, only we've replaced the router about 4 times. I'm guessing it's the cable modem that's really the culprit but we haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

Unplugging and restarting both the cable modem and router fixes the problem for a couple days for me.

Try flashing it with the latest firmware. If that doesn't work, shitcan it. I have gone through several cheap routers in the last few years. There really isn't much you can do to "fix" them once they start failing.

I went through a few routers, but my WRT-54G has been rolling for over three years now without a hiccup.

Luck of the draw.

Does powercycleing the router fix the problem?
