okay so i know someone has asked about this already but i couldn't find the thread soooo....
what is a good-quality, less expensive mp3 player than the everpresent iPod? the boy and i are coming up on our one-year anniversary in a couple months and i really want to get him an mp3 player because he's wanted one for a lonnnng time but hasn't been able to afford one, and since i will have started the new jobbie by then, i'll have a little extra cash to buy him something he really wants.
i know people tend to poop on the iPod (just because it's popular, it seems) but what would be better?
and no, alex, i don't want to get him a minidisc player.
if anyone has any products to recommend or can link me the old thread, i'd really appreciate it <3

ya i <3 mine
take a look at
this, it's 512MB for $99.95, but for $30 more you can make it 1GB and it has a built in FM tuner
that's what i would get if i didn't have my MDman

Irivers & Creative Labs stuff are really good ones.

I got a creative labs 6 GB Zen micro. Works great except for sorting of the music but that may be due to my ignorance. I think I paid $160ish online for it.

Ipods are pieces of shit honestly, poor battery life, annoying interface, and too expensive.

The 6th gen Ipod is the best mp3 player on the market. Plus it plays videos.
You kind of have this dating thing backwards. Generally, the guy woo's the girl and buys her presents and courts her. Life must be different in Nebraska.

i recently got an iPod, 30gb video, 5gen
i am happy with it, though, i do not use it hardcore, i use it in the mornings on a 45 walk and occasionally during the day and for music storage, in case my hard drive crashes.....
Also, I am really big on convenience having a family now, the Apple store is like 10 minutes form my house so repair/replacement is very easy....
I came VERY close to not getting an iPod, though my wife wnated to actually buy the gift for me and i knew she wouldn't be able to find what i wanted on the intraweb without my help and that would have ruined it for her and I am heppy.
So, here are the top ones i found...
1) Creative Zen Vision: M 30 GB MP3 and Video Player
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CS ... oding=UTF8
2) Archos AV500 30 GB Multimedia Player and DVR
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B9 ... oding=UTF8
and this one WHICH I THINK IS THE SHIT...
3) Flyboy Portable Media Center 3.5 LCD 20GB MP3 MPEG4
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009R ... oding=UTF8

Also, a couple of issues you will notice as you read reviews are:
1) What accesories come with the player, Apple accesories can be VERY expensive, though if you search the web you can find them for cheap (This is one reason why i fell in love with the Flyboy, it comes with plenty of stuff)
2) iPod's, as far as I know, only work with iTunes.... The others typically work with at least Windows Media Player and often multiple other meida organization programs.

where is it written that a girl can't buy her guy nice things? i know how hard he works to earn money and i also know that he's got a lot of things that he has to pay for (student loans, helping to support his mom) and that he wouldn't buy himself something extravagant like an mp3 player on his own--the only extravagance he allows himself is a WoW account--so i would really like to take an opportunity to pamper him a little bit.
besides which, my graduation is coming up AND our anniversary, so i know he'll be dropping plenty of cash on me for those two occasions. not like it matters to me. i just like to make him happy.

I love my Creative Zen Micro. Way easier to use than an IPOD imo.

I really love my ipod, I don't have any problems with it at all.
the option of a built-in FM tuner is great though..the batteries are a pain so that I'd look into.
