Paper on schizophrenia

So i had to write a 2 - 3 page essay on the known causes and treatments for schizophrenia for my psychology class. Just wanted some of you guys to proof read and put in some input negative or posative. Keep in mind i could have written about 10 more pages of things on these two subjects by themselves, but page restrictions suck ass, so you don't need to tell me what i could add, just if something is kind of clunky. Thanks mucho much.

The Hypothesized Causes of Schizophrenia
Per. 3
Cody (no last name for JOO)

Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder that effects one percent of the population. Contrary to popular belief, schizophrenia is not split personality. You are in fact one person, but the psychological problem lies in the fact that your personality is fragmented and disintegrated. There are many hypotheses concluding to the fact on what exactly causes schizophrenia. Even though many of these hypotheses are reinforced with scientific data and years of research, there is yet to be a clear-cut cause of schizophrenia. This leads many to conclude that there can be many different causes of schizophrenia. Just like with a broken arm, you could have broken it by falling on it, something being dropped on it, or it being twisted just so.

One theory in the cause of schizophrenia is one with its roots in the field of biochemistry, it is called the “Dopamine Hypothesis.â€

i got about that far... don't use "you" please "The schizophrenic is one person, but the problem lies in the fact that their personality is shattered. In fact, the word schizophrenia, roughly translated from Greek, stands for "Shattered Mind." etc etc

the stuff right after that just seems really clunky and redundant, and could probably use a good editing session... sleep on it and tomorrow come back and try to word things more concisely

and it's quite the coincidence because i'm working on a schizophrenia powerpoint presentation right now for my bio. psych class

This resulted in a catch-22 for schizophrenics- take the antipsychotic drugs and have a plethora of side effects, or not take the drugs and continue to be insane.

Don't use the word 'insane' - there is no such thing or term in psychology as 'insanity' - it's a purely legal term used to describe being incapable of determining right from wrong.

Other than that... to be honest it sounds more or less like a somewhat clunky rehashing of a bunch of summaries of the subject I've read. I don't know how demanding the class is or what they're expecting, but I'd personally do more than just relay the information - add a bit more to it - maybe of what the ramifications of all these things are, or what not.

Damnit I forgot i put you in there. I had a lot yous in my last paragraph and realized how stupid it sounded and changed them, forgot about the ones there, this is the first draft so im expecting a few mistakes. And i know about schizophrenia roughly meaning shattered mind in greek.

but the psychological problem lies in the fact that your personality is fragmented and disintegrated

problem lies in the fact that their personality is shattered

fragmented + shattered = same thing to me.

But yea im going to go change those yous now. Thanks

That is pretty much what my teacher wanted. It took me an hour to write this thing, so its not like i was going for any kind of a record. He strickly wanted a causes of schizophrenia and treatment. Kind of disapointing but he would most likely mark me down if I wrote what i wanted to. I know my fair share on schizophrenia and mpd and bipolar dx and such, its just he expects close to nothing out of his students and grades to that level, so it isn't worth putting my all in it.

And its funny you mention the "insanity" bit, I almost didn't use it for that same reason, but i doubt my teacher is even aware that its just a legal term :-x im going to replace it with psychotic

Pretty cool, kinda eery though since your slide show is almost word for word what i have down in my class notes for those categories. And my paper is on etiology and treatments! So just coppy that and vuala! mmm just kidding. But here is some input i have for your slide show, you probably dont want it from me but here it is anyways.

I personally would change where you put DSM to DSM-IV, its a really small detail but im not sure what your professor is like.

Also I think the DSM-IV says you have to have two or more of those symptoms chronically for 6 months (not 1) to be diagnosed with schizophrenia. but im going to check that now and get back to you.

And that wesley video is a great find, do they have any kind of video after that with a psychiatrist going into detail with what kind of schizophrenia he has?

Im not going to pretend like I know what i am talking about but id guess paranoid schizophrenia? Due to his auditory hallucination of that demon speaking to him, and he's got the flat affect going on. Also his susipcion that his demons are trying to keep him from his artwork. But his speech is really disorganized and he constantly has loss of association (not sure what the technical term is but its the name my teacher gives for shifting from topic to topic at random, or cognative slippage.) Id love to see more videos on this guy, you have any more by chance?
