There’s nothing harder in public life than admitting you’re wrong. By the way, admitting you’re wrong can be even tougher in private life. If you don’t believe me, just ask Bill Clinton or Charlie Sheen. But when you go out on the limb in public, it’s out there where everyone can see it, or in my case, hear it.

So, I’m saying today, I was wrong to have voted for George W. Bush. In historic terms, I believe George W. Bush is the worst two-term President in the history of the country. Worse than Grant. I also believe a case can be made that he’s the worst President, period.

In 2000, I was a McCain guy. I wasn’t sure about the Texas Governor. He had name recognition and a lot of money behind him, but other than that? What? Still, I was sick of all the Clinton shenanigans and the thought of President Gore was… unthinkable. So, GWB became my guy.

For the first few months he was just flubbing along like most new Presidents, no great shakes, but no disasters either. He cut taxes and I like tax cuts.

Then September 11th happened. September 11th changed everything for me, like it did for so many of you. After September 11th, all the intramural idiocy of American politics stopped being funny. We had been attacked by a vicious and determined enemy and it was time for all of us to row in the same direction.

And we did for the blink of an eye. I believed the President when he said we were going to hunt down Bin Laden and all those responsible for the 9-11 murders. I believed President Bush when he said we would go after the terrorists and the nations that harbored them.

I supported the President when he sent our troops into Afghanistan, after all, that’s where the Taliban was, that’s where al-Qaida trained the killers, that’s where Bin Laden was.

And I cheered when we quickly toppled the Taliban government, but winced when we let Bin Laden escape from Tora-Bora.

Then, the talk turned to Iraq and I winced again.

I thought the connection to 9-11 was sketchy at best. But Colin Powell impressed me at the UN, and Tony Blair was in, and after all, he was a Clinton guy, not a Bush guy, so I thought the case had to be strong. I was worried though, because I had read the Wolfowitz paper, “The Project for the New American Century.â€

I voted for Bush (the second time around) and if it was him vs. Kerry again, I'd vote for Bush again.

Not that he's some phenomenol president (although I do think he's cute, like a monkey), but when faced with a situation like that, you go for the lesser of 2 evils.

I try to give the guy some credit.. he's been faced with some of the biggest disasters imaginable during his term (and no, he didn't have any bearing on whether or not they'd occur, the ones I'm speaking of anyway); who's to say another president would've handled it any better? Right off the bat the man is slammed with the WTC stuff - I'm no history buff, but I don't recall any president that was hit with something like that within a year of his presidency starting.. snowball effect ftl.

Anyways, In regards to this guy, he's not a conservative, at all. He supports gay marriage, legalized marijuana, and a host of other things way different from the W agenda. Plus, he's a nobody, with no GOP connections that I'm aware of.

A better description would be a left leaning person who possibly voted for W but now regrets it, which is fine.

There are plenty of true conservatives who don't cut and paste rants from the Daily Kos and falsely label themselves GOP members, such as George Will, who lambast the President frequently and in good merit.

He'll get a ton of press though. I'd suggest reading someone like Andrew Sullivan who actually was somewhat conservative, but did change into a pure anti W force and gives reasons why.

I didn't really post it thinking the focus would be on the whole conservative vs democrat angle but more the whole "2 party system sucks"

I actually don't think it matters much how many parties you have

no one that's elected(regardless of political affiliation) is actually qualified to run a country

Had Kerry had 4 years experience I'm sure what ever moron they would have put him up against would be dealing with a lot of "I don't like Kerry but this other stiff is worse".

It's always been like that.

Yep, incumbency is the greatest advantage a politican can get. Outside of open checks from special interests.

People generally prefer the status quo to change, when it comes to politics.
