Watch out America...a tsunami is coming

according to God. From Associated Press:
(AP) In another in a series of notable pronouncements, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says God told him storms and possibly a tsunami will hit America's coastline this year.
Robertson has made the predictions at least four times in the past two weeks on his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network, which he founded.
Robertson said the revelations about this year's weather came to him during his annual personal prayer retreat in January.
"If I heard the Lord right about 2006, the coasts of America will be lashed by storms," Robertson said May 8. On Wednesday, he added, "There well may be something as bad as a tsunami in the Pacific Northwest."
Robertson has come under intense criticism in recent months for suggesting that American agents should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for Israel's pullout from the Gaza Strip.

God - "Moses, this is the Lord, thy God, commanding you to obey my law. Do you hear me?"
Moses - "Yes, I hear you, I hear you... a deaf man could hear you!"
God - "What?!"

That would be one hell of a tidal wave, is there even a tectonic plate capable of producing a wave that would hit the west coast?

With a net worth somewhere between $200M and $1B, I think people
probably call him that already.

In addition to the article about the Cascadian Subduction zone, I've actually watched a couple of programs on Nat. Geo (or some similar channel) about the it the last few weeks, so this info is pretty fresh in my mind. According to the shows, tsunamis have hit in the past. They pretty much wiped out some town in Californa, I forget the name though. They were also saying that much of the infrastructure on the coast isn't built to survive a tsunami like what hit in December 2004. But these shows always like to play at the worst case scenarios, so they were talking about a major earthquake in the area not only sending tsunamis, but the earthquake damage itself would destroy buildings, in adition to liquifaction causing the buildings to sink, and then landslides would pretty much wipe out the rest of the town.
Also, tsunami waves travel at incredible speeds across long distances. Quakes in our region before have sent tsunamis to Japan. And if I remember correctly, the earthquake in 2004 also sent tsunami waves to Africa. Of course, they weren't as devistating as the ones at ground zero, but they still hit.
If I am remembering that correctly.
Anyway, despite what the Lord Himself might say to people, there's no real way to predict when it will strike. There's tsunami sensors off the coast of Washington/Oregon that measure when sizable waves pass over them and send warnings back to the coast, but if a quake as close as the Cascadian Subduction zone was to hit, the warnings wouldn't provide enough of an alarm to really do anything. A few minutes at most.

Has a tsunami ever hit the Us? I don't recall ever hearing any news coverage about one.

Yes - according to the Live Science article, the last one hit Alaska in 1964. So nothing in relatively recent times.
