and wow its amazing, but I really suck at it. When it comes to the part when you have to find Martin, I cant even get past the imps or whatever just inside the gate
The graphics are just fucking stunning though on this 50 inch widescreen HD tv tho

I would start with either the dark brotherhood missions and complete it before doing the main quest or do the entire arena line.
Both will get you geared up...The dark brotherhood missions will get you pimped the fuck out.
Even with the gear from that mission I got wtfpwned on the first part of the main quest once or twice.
Oh and if you do illusion casting make sure to get the "Frenzy" line of spells. They are so much fun.
When some shopkeeper gives you lip, just frenzy them and watch them run outside and attack the guards and get ownt. Its hilarious.

wrong. Being a vampire is hella easy and gives you sick abilities.
If you are playing any kind of thief/assasin type the vampire abilites own.
I have played almost the entire time as a vampire.
The life detect 100 feet and nighteye ability are powa. The fear ability is money too for mowing down that really tough mob with a bow and arrow.

Depends if you like in depth RPGs done well in First Person Mode.
If you liked Morrowind you'll definitely like this. However, if you don't care to play non social deep games, you won't.

And there is no way to go into 3rd person view? It's first person view only?
Posted: Mon Jun 05, 2006 8:00 am
by Tossica
it's 1st or 3rd person.

If I had it to do all over again, i'd do all the guild quests at once
ie, do a warrior 1, then a thief 1, then a darkbrotherhood one, then mage, etc etc
it's kinda gay being lvl 20+ and just starting mage guild

It's built to be first person, a la EQ/EQ2/Quake/etc
it's not built to be moreso third person, like DAOC/WOW.

I played EQ and EQ2 in third person.
I just can't stand first person view.

Oblivion can easily be played in 3rd. It's actually better in a lot of circumstances to switch to third so you can see whats behind you.

I would start over if I were you.
First and foremost, Athletics and Acrobats are fun but not that useful and they go up on their own constantly... Just hit the jump key all the time while running around.
I wouldn't do restoration either. You use it so often it goes up by itself too.
I recommend this build:
Light Armor
Block
Sneak
Illusion
Mysticism (you need this to soul trap, but you can do without it for something else)
Blade
Marksman
You can get sneak critical damage with a bow and absolutely fuck things up from a distance. If you are playing an assasin/thief type I think marksman is critical.
Now without giving too much away a couple of things I would do:
Join the fighters guild. Become a vampire through the dark brotherhood quest line. It gives you great power and you can stop in at any fighter's guild and feed off the people when you have to be outside during daylight.
Join the thiefs guild and do the first mission so you can sell stolen shit. Stealing is fun just like in real life.
Then do the dark brotherhood quest line. Its a lot of fun, a great storyline and tons of cool gear.
If you don't do the dark brotherhood quest line I would do the first couple of main storyline quest missions at Kvatch. Once you get the first oblivion stone go steal a Daikatana when you get the to Cloud Temple. Its a 1 handed sword with 11 damage, and insert the stone. It adds 15 shock damage. This weapon will put out serious fucking pain.
Lastly I have played about 5 different races and the Khajit (cat) are absolute badasses for the thief/assasin type of player, mainly because of their speed and acrobatic ability.

no matter how you play it, it's a pretty fun game
i found it almost as immersive as old EQ~
except of course, it's sweet being able to put it on pause, or just reload it when you fuck something up

eh...I don't know.
I think I am getting a Saturday job at a local internet cafe called the battleground (for the F of it). I may just try it there before blowing the 60 bucks.
But I am sure it's as good as everyone says it is.

Oblivion is the best game I have ever played. I'm sure you could pick up a used copy on eBay for nothing.
I agree with it being immersive. I just wish it had even minor multiplayer capabilities.
I'm surprised the Elder Scrolls line hasn't been turned into an MMO. That would be sweet.

Yeah even before I read your post I started over as a cat dude sneaky assassin guy. I definitly use sneak and marksman to clear wh ole dungeons @@
And GODAMNIT as soon as get the hang of it and start pwning I found a place called Wendir (sp?) and cleared most of the dungean to the point of needing badass lockpick skeelz and now im lost and cant find the entrance. Been doing this for like 2 hours running in circles...i may have to godamn load at a save point before i went in, which will suck because im ready to lvl
I believe now I am
Marksman
Sneak
Light Armor
Blade
Restoration
Athletics
Acrobatics
I dont know why I picked half of that stuff, sounded interesting~
Hell now after being lost in the middle of nowhere without anything to kill I would rather be starting over

oh another thing...
choosing a Thief as your specialization early on suck IMO. You get WTFpwned in combat.
I chose combat as my primary and just built up all my thievery sk33lz.
