Turns out the Dos was a decoy. Someone is attemping to hack the server. I am patching small holes at the moment but to be safe I have changed the nt backup schedule to every night. This way if somone gets really pissy and manages to pull down the server, I can have NT back up and running on my other server in a day.

Any idea where they were originating from Gidan?

Usually you can report this stuff to your ISP and they can give you that information.

They are using lots of ISP's at the moment. I think its good and locked out, I will let our abuse department deal with the ISP's.

Well had to restart apache but I think I got their last backdoor finally closed up.

Note: When clicking the "All" button to bring up all the smilies, it says 'Hacking attempt1" in the little window and no smilies.

I have gone through alot of the php scripts on the server and increased security alot, the major holes were all php related and I am slowly fixing the places where phpbb isn't so good security wise. I will have that fixed eventually.

If you run into any more of the "Hacking Attempts" error just let me know. I would rather the server be overly secure then nto secure enough, but I can fix small things in the scripts to make them work.




All button is working again, somone needs to hit the guy who wrote it over the head with something hard.

haha, the hacker wasn't trying to hack NT. My guess is they were preying that I was dumb enough to run apache as root (not all the uncommon unfortunatly) and hacking it would give them root access to my server.

The owner of the scripts that were uses has already been, we will say "Talked to" about the issue.
