BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most wanted terrorist in Iraq, was killed in a coalition airstrike near Baquba, jubilant U.S. and Iraqi authorities announced Thursday.
Al-Zarqawi's killing is a major coup for the embattled coalition forces.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Gen. George Casey, the highest-ranking U.S. commander in Iraq, and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad announced the development at a news conference.
"Today, Zarqawi has been killed," al-Maliki said. The announcement was greeted by cheers and applause.
Khalilzad -- who called al-Zarqawi "the godfather of sectarian killing and terror in Iraq" -- said the death "marks a great success for Iraq and the global war on terror" and calls it a "good omen" for the new Iraqi government.
"His organization has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of civilians in Iraq and abroad."
Casey provided details about the incident
He said al-Zarqawi and a key lieutenant, spiritual advisor Sheik Abd-Al-Rahman, were at an isolated safe house at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Tips and intelligence from Iraqi senior leaders from his network led forces to al-Zarqawi and some of his associates who were conducting a meeting approximately eight kilometers north of Baquba when the airstrike was launched.
Baquba is a volatile area northeast of Baghdad in Diyala province, a mixed Shiite-Sunni jurisdiction. There have been many roadside bombings and shootings throughout the province and within the week, severed heads were found in fruit boxes there.
"Iraqi police were first on the scene after the air strike, and elements of Multi-National Division North, arrived shortly thereafter. We have been able to identify al-Zarqawi by fingerprint verification, facial recognition and known scars."
Al-Maliki indicated that the strike on al-Zarqawi was the "result of cooperation" with the citizenry, saying that authorities many times have asked the citizenry to provide information.
"This is a message to all those who take violence as a path."
Khalilzad said the demise of al-Zarqawi won't end the violence in Iraq, but it is "an important step in the right direction." He said "there will be difficult days ahead" but said that "today is a good day."

Actually, according to Islam, "Do not be deceived by the fortunes of the unbelievers in the land. Their prosperity is brief. Hell shall be their home, a dismal resting place." (3:195-96)
Also according to Islam, unbelievers are "deaf, dumb, and blind, they understand nothing." (2:172)
"Belivers, do not make friends with any but your own people. They will spare no pains to corrupt you. They desire nothing but your ruin. Their hatred is evident from what they utter with their mouths, but greater is the hatred which their breasts conceal." (3:118)
"They are liars all." (6:29)
At its core, Islam is a religion of world domination. They believe that everyone will someday either be converted, killed, or ruled by Muslims. That mindset of theirs absolutely must change if we are to safely go on believing what we believe and living the way we live.
It would be very easy for them to see unbelievers as inferior and somehow less than human. After all, they think we're all going to Hell anyways. It wouldn't be difficult at all for an extremist to justify genocidal actions. Plus, dying while fighting for what they believe to be God's cause is one of the, if not the greatest thing you can do in life as a Muslim.
The corner we're being backed into really sucks. We don't have many options left. Their beliefs are so deeply imbedded that it will take generations to change. I'd hate to see people resort to "crushing" them all over beliefs about things that absolutely must be taken on faith.
No one listens to each other. They're both so convinced that they are right and the other is wrong that it is damn near pointless to try.
The world would be so much better off without organized religion.

mmm quote I made from a another post.
Lol I dont think you can mis-interpret these. They are the exact translation of parts from the koran.
One might counter that Muhammad was a man, and as a man he had vices like any other. Who among the Old Testament prophets was without vice? And it's true; just about every prophet listed in the Old Testament had glaring faults which plagued him. Why, therefore, ought we to attribute Muhammad's faults onto Islam?
The answer is that the Koran, the holy text of Islam, preaches violence. In fact, the Koran is wholly unique among sacred texts in its violence and its exhorting believers to wage war against unbelievers. The proof is in the text itself. There are over one hundred verses in the Koran that command Muslims to wage war and slaughter the infidels (unbelievers). I will list eight:
1) "O prophet! Strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell, an evil refuge indeed." -Koran 9:73*
*note that "strive hard" in Arabic is jahidi, a verbal form of the noun jihad. Such striving was to be on the battlefield.
2) "When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads and, when you have laid them low, bind your captives firmly." - Koran 47:4
3) "O ye who believe! Fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him." - Koran 9:123
4) "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject faith fight in the cause of evil: so fight ye against the friends of Satan." - Koran 4:76
5) "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them captive, and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." - Koran 9:5**
**Note that the "poor-due" is zakat which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which regulates religious tithes. The verse is thus saying that if the "idolaters" become Muslims, leave them alone.
6) "Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." - Koran 9:29***
***Note that the Jizya tax is a tax that is to be inflicted upon non-Muslims only. Therefore, Muslims have two choices with dealing with non-Muslims: slaughter them unless they become Muslims, or subdue themselves to you and pay you for their life.
One might counter that while there are some verses that seem to teach war and jihad, but there are many verses that also teach tolerance and peace. However, the closest the Koran comes to teach tolerance and peace is to counsel Muslims to leave the infidels alone in their errors. A couple of examples:
a) "Say: O disbelievers! I worship not that which ye worship; nor worship ye that which I worship. And I shall not worship that which ye worship. Nor will ye worship that which I worship. Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion." -Koran 109:1-6
b) And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble dignity. And leave Me alone to deal with those in possession of the good things of life, who yet deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while." - Koran 73:10-11
c) "Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that never breaks." - Koran 2:256

Does that even dignify a response? They even say in the same quote about the passages that promote peace. None of them teach to go out intently to kill non believers. They say if met on the battlefield etc.
If you think tha tmeans to go out and kill just for the sake of it, you're fucking stupid and you have the same reasoning skills as your average muslim terrorist. Every single one of those is misinterpreted by extremists. Especially 6).
Just go read up about Islam sometime. Read about how much of a peaceful religion it is. The Taliban, Al-Qaeda etc., are not representations of good Muslims. They came into power through iron fist and being militant, not because people supported them. The Taliban misconstrued almost every single thing in the Koran, but they used that as the law of the land.
Muslims aren't violent people and if you think they are, you would be doing yourself a favor to educate yourself about them. If anyone should be wiped off the planet it's this goddamn backwards country full of people like you that Google everything and think they're a fucking Rhodes Scholar. Fuck. You people piss me off.

slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them captive, and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. Wow if you are that stupid that you can't figure out what that means then damn you have no fucking room of talking about comprehension skills.
