Honestly, I think it's making the situation there worse. Just look at the status of the area before all this happened and now.

Before, Abbas was in the process of forcing Hamas to agree to sign off on an agreement on Israel's right to exist, and had something like 60%+ backing among the Palestinian civilian population for said referendum.

Now: that referendum is dead as a dornail. Not only do they have the 1 kidnapped soldier, there's what, 2 or 3 more that have been captured. The area is on the brink of War between Israel and Lebanon, if it isn't already at war. (might as well be, given what's going on)

Yes, I can understand the desire to get the hostage back. However, what Israel is doing has hardly secured his release, correct?

Honestly, I think they're playing right into the hands of whoever arranged the kidnapping. Bet you $$$ that whoever arranged it didn't like the possibility of an accord between Israel and Hamas, and arranged the kidnapping knowing Israel would go berserk, and thus ruin any chance of such an accord. Well, seems to have worked damn well, eh?

Well for starters I don't see Israeli’s preaching death to America as Hezbollah leaders have done on a routine basis, I dunno, thats a big one in my book. Admittedly I'm biased here, mainly because I love and take pride in my country (a seemingly increasing unpopular view), and believe it should look out for it's self. it's allies and do what is in the best interest of both, and should not feel bad about doing so.

In the days after 9/11 I struggled with my thoughts and feelings, I was for a short time appalled by the gut feeling that we should hunt down and destroy those responsible without restraint and without letting anyone stand in our way, and to deal with any who did with swift and deadly force. As a general rule I don't condone violence unless it's a last resort, I did a lot of soul searching wondering how it was that my feelings were so driven by wrath and a need for revenge. Then I came to the realization that this was not really the case. The real reason I had feelings of this nature were not born out of revenge but of prevention. I realized we were dealing with people for whom there is only one form of meaningful communication, and that is violence. Violence is all they understand, it's what they preach, it's what they live. You can not comprise with this, there is no true middle ground, appeasement will not work, you must eliminate the threat and send the message that violent actions will be met with a swift, uncompromising overwhelming response.

How hypocritical and wrong it has been for my country and my government to ask Israel to exercise restraint, to stay it's hand when it's populations sons, daughters, mothers and fathers are killed by these people who feel they should be wiped off the face of the planet. No I think it's time we lighten up on Israel, allow them to make responses that deter instead of urging them to make continued failed attempts to pacify.

Oh and spazz known members of Hezbollah are wanted by the US for thier roles in a TERRORIST hijacking of a TWA flight, and the brutal murder of an American Navy Soldier... so don't put the word terrorist in quotes as if it's debatable you fucking moron.
