Your Prius costs the world more $ per mile than my Hummer

Eat that hippies.
Actually, it's true. I was listening to NPR on the way home from work this morning and the programs guest was a guy from CNW Marketing/Research. A few years ago they started a project to tabulate the actual cost, from concept to development, to sales and driving, to the disposal of that car. With over 4,000 key points tabulating the cost per mile of that car, they believe they covered every single cause of cost in an automobile on the market today.
They tabulated how much a car would wear on a road and what that would cost taxpayers. How much the energy cost for the workers at the plant to drive to work every day they built that car. It's fuel economy, it's disposability, everything.
Some fun facts. One of the lowest social costing cars on the market today? Nope, not an Insight. Not a Prius. A Crown Vic. Yeah. At a social cost of 40 odd cents per mile, it smokes the Prius that comes in at about $2.25 per mile.
And an H2? $2 per mile.
Well, to try and avoid all you global warming mongos from bleating like a gut shot fawn, they're not advocating you trade in your hybrid for a Hummer. They're not advocating anything. They're simply showing that statistically, total cost is a lot different than MPG.
There's a 450 page report
here if you're curious.

Man i dont get the global warming hate. Its like the god arguement only with consiquences that can sorta be seen. If they are wrong what have you got to loose? Now how bout if you are? I think the earth has cycles but to not think we arent helping things along seems a little silly to me. Im not attackin you or anything min just saw the words global warming and had to ask in general.
Back on topic i never would have thought a crown vic ( the huge cop mobile right? its early

) would be the cheapest car to drive.

I don't have any hate for global warming. Hell it's probably even true. I just hate the media that sensationalizes everything into TONIGHT AT SIX WHAT'S UNDER YOUR SINK CAN KILL YOUR CHILD OH NOOOOO more after this!
omfg we get it don't drink bleach and the sun can give you cancer. Now find some real news to report, like doing a 1 hour emergency special on how anti semetic Mel Gibson is. That'll make a difference in the world.

Oh and once I shot a rabbit with a bow, field tipped arrows, I was about 13. That fucking rabbit cried and cried and cried and I finally found it and stepped on its head. Made me promise never to shoot anything with field points again, no matter how small it was.

I killed a deer with my bare hands, jumped out of a tree stand and ripped its antler off and stabbed it in the heart

Didn't you watch rambo? When you go hunting for critters you use explosive tipped arrows. It works well against russians too.
