I often patronize my graveyard shift guys by telling them they have "great opportunities" and that they have degree's from "prestigious schools" but truth be told if your school is worth the paper they printed your diploma on then you'd be working 9-5.

I love the graveyard shift personally.

Working 9-5 blows hard. Waste of a perfectly good day to do something entertaining.

12-8PM is my favorite shift.

10pm-7am eq doesn't count as a graveyard shift sir.

Mine's gonna be 9pm-9am or longer.

Supervised the ER on days for nearly 7 years. Been doing it on nights going on 4 now and it's MUCH nicer. More drunks/drugs which I can't stand, but also more time off. Plus a LOT more money.

Graveyard will give you time to get used to the trucks without too many assholes on the road.

I did it in the military, and never could get used to it. I can handle days or evenings, but swing shift made me feel tired all the time.

i heard somewhere that people who work late nights/graveyard shifts are more prone to depression

I worked it for about 9 months. In those 9 months I was never able to really get use to it. Sleeping during the day just sucked. I very much like my 8:30 - 4:30 shift. Graveyard probably wouldn’t be bad if you stick to that schedule on your days off. I didn’t, every Wed morning when I got off work I went right back to a normal schedule and tried to swap back again before work Sun morning.

while you're on graveyard, the rest of the world is on regular

ie, expect calls in the middle of your sleep period

not seeing regular friends for weeks on end

etc, etc

i think for me, i'd work 7-4 ideally. 7 isn't that early, and 4 is early enough that i could still get stuff done before things close down at 5.

yeah I work 7-4, sometimes 6-4 and I like it a lot. Every couple days i work a few hours over for a little overtime so it works out well.

Invest in a white noise generator. You'll have a lot more noises in the daytime to interrupt your sleep. More traffic, lawn mowers, roommates, construction, etc.

like someone said earlier, the perfect shift is probably 12-8, or 1-9

you get off work early enough to go out and do stuff, yet you can sleep in, or go to the beach in the mornings, etc etc


I used to love the 1-9 shift at work here

8-4:45 is alright too

My ideal shift would be 1 PM to 3 PM, three days a week.

A 6 hour week works for me. I want that job.

I'll just try to have a positive outlook on it and make the best of it. There will be less traffic to contend with (like Martrae said), and it will be temporary until I get promoted to management. So, I'll just have to bust my ass and pay my dues for now. Thanks for y'all's input.

I hated working 1-9...it ruined the whole day. I much preferred 9-5 or 10-6.
