"Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence," Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said.

islam is going through the same growing pains that the christian curches did during the inquisition.

big difference is of course that they have access to globaly destructive weapons

Indeed, how many tens of millions of people did Christianity, that "Bastion of Tolerance" slaughter over the last 1000 years simply because they believed in a different god or interpreted a book differently? Given its druthers, I think it would be like that again, too, if it had the chance and opportunity.

Why do you always have to atttack Christianity whenever something about Islam is brought up, Arlos? You sure seem to hate Christians.

Why do you always have to be attacking Islam?

Attacking another religion for its supposed intolerance or berating it for its violence is particularly hypocritical when the one YOU follow has been a source of intolerance for 2000 years, and who's hands are bathed in the blood of a mountain of bodies slaughtered to its name. And of all things, hypocrisy pisses me off perhaps the most.

I posted a quote I thought was amusing, nothing more. I don't seem to recall attacking Islam every time you post your diatribe regarding Christianity.

Your countrymen are all hypocritical Christians, Arlos, eh? We're sorry you are stuck in such an evil society as ours. My condolences.

I'd guess an enlightened society in the Middle East would be a better place for you to live. Heck, you'd be right at home in attacking Christians based on events in the 1600s too!

Bullshit. You posted the quote because you believe Islam to be both intolerant and violent, and you thought the quote was thus ironic. Yes, there are violent and intolerant followers of Islam. Guess what, there's violent and intolerant followers of Christianity, too. Christianity's ENTIRE history has been one of intolerance: Of anyone who believes differently, acts differently, worships differently... even of other groups that claimed to be christian, just interpreted the bible differently. While you may not be slaughtering Cathars or pagans by the 10 thousand any more, that intolerance has never wavered.

Of all the many muslims and christians I have known throughout my life, it has been an invariant truth that those that have been the most intolerant of others's beliefs/ways of life/behaviors/etc have been christians.

Live your life by your interpretation of christ's teachings all you want, it's your right, so by all means go for it. But to presume to judge another religion for failings that your own has, and has worse... THAT is hypocrisy.

Bleh, I have to agree with Arlos again. Seems like Christians are pretty intolerant. Personally, I could fucking care less what people want to believe...that is until they start hurting or killing people over it.

It is true. One doesn't have to look further than 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Greed? Gluttony? Lies? All these "sins" condemned by the bible, yet serve as hallmarks of the GOP.

How many of you know at least one person who's in church on Sunday, and out fucking someone other than their spouse on Monday?

The TRUE Christian is rare, very rare.

I will shock and awe some of you here, when I say that I do believe in a higher power - as my current paradigm. While the "Big Bang" theory is certainly valid in its conception, one has to ask where the hydrogen came from in the first place - and no I'm going to get into a discussion about what the Big Bang is... suffice to say that all the matter in the universe (all of it hydrogen at that point in time) was confined to a single, small focal point. Anyway, without further digression - let me say that until science can answer the question of where the H came from - I am left with little recourse than to accept that perhaps there is a power beyond my ability to reason.

As a VERY wise man once said, "there are simply matters beyond the abilities of human comprehension." In other words, there are phenomena that are simply beyond the phyisical capability of the human brain to understand. That wise man is.... Santiago Cajal (I rec reading him if you ever get the chance).

Despite my personal beliefs... I like to fuck... drink... party... cuss... and endulge in other "worldly" vices. But, I don't for one second pretend to be a champion of Christianity, unlike many MANY others.

almost every religion is intolerant of every other religion

one of the main tenets of (almost)every religion is "we're right, they're wrong, so feel free to treat them as lesser beings"

I suggest to you that TRUE Christians are not intolerant. However, as I said before - they are ultra RARE.

You despise Christianity for personal reasons, and try to lump Christians with unfair labels based on your personal secular progressive hatred of the religion.

You've pointed out how bad and terrible Christianity is again and again, based on things that happened hundreds of years ago while discussing current events. That's a red herring.

Hey, notice how many Homosexuals were put to death by Christians this decade? Notice how intolerant Christian countries are of those with different opinions? Uh huh. Keep spouting BS.

It's good to see you see no difference between Islamic Regimes and Christian countries.

Lets see how countries ruled by Koranic law treat their homosexual citizens. Under the Taliban, Afghanistan put at least ten homosexuals to death, probably many more.

On New Year’s Day 2002 in Saudi Arabia beheaded three men for sodomy.

Iran has executed several thousand men for homosexuality since 1979.

Egypt had a widely publicized mass arrest of suspected homosexuals in 2001 resulting in the torture and imprisonment of dozens of men as young as fifteen.

This doesn't even touch upon 'honor killings' of female, or the overal castigation and subjugation of women in modern day Islamic countries.

So, feel free in your sheltered environed country of Christianity to continue to pronounce your belief in the hypocrisy of a religion that supports freedom and fairness and equate it to another that is trying to kill you, while you are protected primarily by your military which is manned mostly by those Christians you hate. Hypocrisy, oh you fucking bet.

Opinions are like asshole. Even those opinions in socialist countries who get state sponsored news and claim to have a clue.

Although I did cite some facts and arguments. More than can be expected from any Canadian, eh, hoser?

Generally, the liar liar pants on fire argument doesn't work in countries with free presses, Tikker.

Unfair labels? Organized christianity has EARNED those labels with 2000 years of institutionally entrenched intolerance and bloodshed.

The thing you're mistaking is that the United States is *NOT* a Christian Country. We are a SECULAR country that happens to contain a large proportion of Christians. Our founding fathers SPECIFICALLY REJECTED making the US a "Christian" nation.

Yet even so, how many homosexual men are beaten in this country every year by christians for no other reason than the fact that they're gay? Some of them beaten to death? Oh yes, those christians who beat gay people to death are SO morally superior to those who condemn them to death in Islamic countries.

Of course I don't support those actions of those islamic nations. It's barbaric and wrong. Yes, Islam contains intolerance as well. Basically all organized non-eastern religions do. Christianity just is MORE intolerant overall than any of the others.

How many states just voted in laws denying the possibility of even civil unions and or/domestic partnerships? Oh yeah, the Christian Church has lost SO much of its intolerance. right. They are less violent now, I will grant you. That is, however, a recent development. As recently as 150 years ago, "Christians" engaged in biological warfare against native americans by selling them smallpox-infested blankets, and felt justified in doing so because the natives were "Godless Savages".

Christianity has *NEVER* been accepting of beliefs that differed even a micron from its own. While they are no longer burning people at the stake or converting by teh sword, that intolerance has wavered not one iota.

so what are you saying lyion, that none of the facts that arlos provided earlier are valid?

do you dispute the history of the christian's bloody conquests?

the fact that the christian murders happened 600 years ago makes them no less relevant compared to the unreast around islam now

I gave up on trying to comprehend the bible and all that kind of shit, Im just going to try whatever I can to be a good person and enjoy my life.

The Muslims are currently pissed at the Pope for what he said about Mohammed and Islam earlier in the week. They are protesting the all over the world and demanding an apology.

Why should the care what the Pope says? They know he doesn't believe what they do, otherwise he wouldn't be the Pope.
