Tackle Ejected for Stomping on Head

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was ejected early in the third quarter Sunday after he kicked Dallas center Andre Gurode in the face. Now the tackle expects to be punished and knows he deserves it.

"What I did out there was disgusting," Haynesworth said. "It doesn't matter what the league does to me. The way I feel right now, you just can't describe it."

Julius Jones had just scored on a 5-yard run, putting Dallas up 20-6 in what wound up as a 45-14 victory. Gurode's helmet came off, and Haynesworth, standing over him, used his right foot to kick Gurode in the head.

Gurode said they hadn't been talking or having any exchanges that led to Haynesworth kicking him twice. He received stitches above his forehead and beneath his eye.

"In all my years of football, this has never happened to me. I've never been kicked in the face like this, and I've never seen anybody kick nobody else in the face," Gurode said.

A flag was thrown, and Haynesworth followed an official toward the Titans' sideline, protesting.

Haynesworth pulled off his helmet and slammed it to the ground, prompting another flag. Referee Jerome Boger disqualified Haynesworth, and the player walked off the field after talking briefly with Titans coach Jeff Fisher.

The coach called Haynesworth's actions unacceptable and promised he would be punished by the Titans even if the NFL disciplines him.

"It's ridiculous to get to that point. Two back-to-back penalties like that, there's no place for it," Fisher said.

Yeah i was watching this. It was not a "kick" to the head. Imho is was much worse. Gurode was on right side on the ground, Haynesworth was standing over him, looked down and more or lest stomped on his head. The cleets tore open a cut above his eye, and he was bleeding profusly from it. It took 30 stitches to close it, and Gurode complained of blurry vision.

This is borderline assault. Haynesworth said alot of "right" things after the game, however it doesnt change what happened. It was just sickening to see it. NFL will probably fine him around 20k for it, and suspend him for a game. Sorry but the suppension needs to be far more than that imho. 6 games minimum, is what i came up with. Dumb dumb dumb dumb act. It doesnt belong in football.

Fischer will jabown him with a bigger suspension than the NFL will (and rightly so)


I've never seen anything like that before

Ive got to hand it to fisher too. After the game he went straight to Parcells appologizing, and told him that if the NFL did not punish him to "his satisfaction" that he would. Fisher is a class coach, and if Haynesworth wasnt a complet dumshit for stomping on a guys head, i would feel sorry for him having Fisher come down on him.

It would not surprise me if Fisher suspends him for the remainder of the year.

I watched the press conference after. He publicly apologized, and I do think he *is* sorry at least a little, but still, you cant kill someone and then say sorry and get away with it. He'll be fined up the ass, I think they said he's getting a 4 game suspension and I wouldnt be the least bit suprised if criminal charges were filed....and I hope they are.

Since he's an athlete there won't be any legal ramifications though. Pro athlete status = immunity.

Just another nail in my NFL coffin. I hate to say it (as I've loved the NFL for years), but I'm seriously just getting tired of it. You don't see the same passion for the game and to win like you do in college ball. It's not as exciting as college ball. Every week there's yet another NFL player getting cuffed for some stupid shit, or getting fined for shit like we just saw in this tread...

I've noticed I watch more and more college and less and less NFL with each season. I was out and about a little on Sat and kept thinking - fuck I gotta get home - games are on. On Sunday I was out and about and thought... ehh if I get home in time I might turn on a game... no rush.

To many "individuals" to many show boaters in the NFL... it just doesn't seem the same as it once did.

I got excited about this season... now that it's here... I just don't seem to really care much about it. Maybe that'll change when we get closer to the play offs.

At least I can still find joy in seeing Jacksonville and Miami lose.

College will never be as good as the NFL until they go to a playoff for the championship.

Being able to play cupcake conference schedules and only beating 1 decent team the whole year to go undefeated is gay.

I agree. watching college games that almost always are 60-3 gets old quick.

Alot of people like college better than the NFL. But im in agreement, that until they have a playoff system, and have some sort of scheduling that is not filled in with cream puffs, i have no desire to watch College much anymore.

There is no reason why they cant have a playoff at all, the BCS system is a joke. I would love to see how good Ohio State REALLY is (i think they are damn good but dont really know) if they had to play everyone in their conference.

I do like Pac 10 football because they are forced to play everyone in their conference every year. We get good matchups that way, and the games are competitive. The Majority of NCAA only have to play a low number of games against conference rivals every year.

As far as NFL players getting in trouble all the time, yeah that is a problem. I think its magnified by TV, but dont kid yourself thinking that NCAA doesnt have alot of these same problems. They just dont make the news Nationally, unless its from a top 5 school. Do you forget about Marcus Vick stomping on a guys balls last year??? The shit still happens at the NCAA level.

As far as passion for the game? The NFL players have lots of passion for it. Yes they get paid tons of money, but there is not one person in the NFL that doesnt want to win it all. There is a reason they have to stay in shape all year long for the season. If you dont, you will get demolished, or have someone take your spot.

To me NFL is a better brand of football than the NCAA because of the competitive scheduling. You play your conference, you dont get a choice at wich cream puffs to schedule. Hell if you did, the 49ers, Titans, and Texans's phones would not stop ringing.

As far as collegiate players wanting to win more than NFL players? There is no way you can back that statement up. I have yet to hear NFL players say, "i just didnt feel like playing, it didnt matter if we won, or im just glad i got paid".

You have to remember the NFL plays at the highest level, yes there are the fuckups, but the vast majority of people are there to win. The money is a GREAT byproduct of the NFL, but they are playing a game that shortens life, and in the long run disables people in one way or another. To continue to play after (as an example) Culpepper tearing 3/4 ligaments in his knee last year, and coming back as quickly as he did. Do you think he did that just to get another pay check? Hell no, he wants to win, he loves the game. He busted his ass to come to play.

I think we Devalue the players at the NFL level because of how much money they make. We demean them for having these huge contracts. We dont give them their due because we expect so much out of them. Hell i appreciate the players that go out there, bust their asses to play a game for us to watch on TV. It makes for a great sunday.
