Bill Maher, last night, hit on pretty much every point that I have been making for quite time now. Bill Maher is my hero.

1. Greed will be the down fall of this country.
2. Republicans will continue to play the fear card to try and garner votes.
3. The Republicans in power now, are using religion as a cloak and are no more "christian" than the atheists are.

Thank you Mr. Maher. I thought I was the only one who "saw it."

He brought up how the US used to be a power house of innovation and now... how we've gone from inventing such technological wonders like the airplane to inventing the fried Twinkie. I've been saying the same thing - we've lost our edge on practically every front.

And yes... yes my message board addicted friends - he mentioned how shitty American parenting has become.

All this time I had thought that I was losing my mind and that no one agreed with my points of view. It's nice to know that someone like Maher obviously has seen the same things.

I've been saying it alllll along. The downfall of this country will come from the bombs of terrorists, or an invading army - but from greed and our own ignorance. Our society used to be great. There used to be a certain amount of pride in proclaiming your status as an American. We used to lead the world in science and technology. Now? We've turned into a bunch of fat, lethargic (spelling), pieces of shit too stupid to know anything other what's on TV and when. We've replaced education and other important aspects of life with entertainment.

I've often joked about moving out of this country, but you know... the more I think about it, really... the more serious I grow in becoming a Canadian, German, or Swede and watching from afar as this country falls flat on its face.

There are moments, however, when I come here and a little hope is returned. I see what are obviously quality parents - Evermore, Mart, Araby, etc... who seem to know what's what. But, then I see the Gargs who go out and get trashed while her kids are at home and I reminded of the problems we as a country face and the trouble we're in.

Despite our differences I do see a pretty nice pool of intelligent posters here, which reminds me again that perhaps all is not lost.

I think what pisses me off most is that our society in general has completely thrown the value of education to the side and filled that void with reality tv. There's nothing wrong with being entertained, but where and when did we completely throw the value of education into the dumpster?

I'd look at Switzerland. They seem to have their shit together, and they have this neat little habit of holeling up when the world is in trouble and just taking care of themselves instead of fucking around with everyone else. They're #3 on my list of countries that will survive the zombie uprising.

PS. That quote is from "The Third Man", one of my favorite movies.
