new guy at work.
we've been training him for at least a month, now. maybe three weeks. whatever.
he is technologically retarded.
i feel bad, but at the same time, i can only explain how to save an email attachment to the my documents file so many times before i freaking explode and punch the guy in the nose.
i feel like a bitch but goddamn i'm going insane.

You should teach him how to type break on your keyboard.

Type some instructions out for him? Then staple it to his forehead.

What mail system do you use? MS Exchange 2003 by chance?
I'd be curious to know more about any policy you may regarding attachments and e-mail. Be carefull though, this is a trick question /evilgrin
However the person you are training must be retarded if they can't save (or drag and drop) attachments out of an e-mail.

we use the most recent (well, the one before 2007, at least) microsoft outlook. soooo easy.
we have to do some web site editing online using microsoft frontpage and i hand-wrote step-by-step instructions for him on how to do this and he still asks the same questions every single week. i don't know how to get any more thorough!
so frustrating! ><
also, clakar, i don't know for sure what our attachment policies are. i know that we use attachments to send around word documents and pictures, but i also know that josh's mom sends me silly wmv forwards all the time and i can open those, too, so i'm guessing it must not be that strict. although i think our filter catches emails containing the f bomb, weirdly enough.

It's very easy to hide viruses as ".wmv" files, or similar nastiness. That and Outlook is the single most vulnerable email system to virus penetration, makes that a situation ripe for isues down the line should someone send an employee there something malicious.
Trust me, there are times when trying to isolate and clean a viral infection on a network is a major major pain in the rear end.

hehe regardless of who it's from, i'm always very wary of opening stuff. i only open about 10% of the things chris sends me, just for safety's sake. that, and i'm sure a lot of it is nsfw hehe.

Don't worry about it Leah. Just open whatever attachments you want. It will give the IT guys something to do beside sitting around picking their noses while surfing for porn.

I think he is in love with you Leah. He is just faking it so he can be close to you. Why don't you throw him a bone and give him a little flash.

that's disgusting. he's 40-some years old, married, with about 17 kids (as a practicing devout catholic hehe). ew, even the thought makes me shudder. plus he's really super short and squirrelly. short guys aren't my type.

As you know, most practicing devout catholics are either perverts or closet case homos.

i could realistically see either being true, which makes me even more uncomfortable about having to share a desk space with him. it wouldn't be so bad, except since i'm sitting right next to him, he feels the need to ask me questions all the damn time (the same questions over and over, mind you) even when i'm clearly wearing headphones and listening to music. plus i'm just used to having my desk to myself; when i first started, there was a chick sitting next to me for about a month and then she got moved from copy editing to content editing, and so that adjoining desk was empty for about five months . . . and then along came patrick. ewww. right away, the first thing he does is put this giant-ass fake plant right smack in the middle of the area dividing our desks (which is a very small areas, so much so that his plant was pretty much all over my hand whenever i'd use my mouse, no matter what) which also blocked the "in" tray for our quark printouts, so the two copy eds sitting at the desks behind us couldn't see the trays to see if there were any printouts that needed to be worked on. plus since he was in renewals before moving to our department, he used to be on the phone a whole lot to perform his renewals duty; well, as such his phone had this horribly loud, irritating ringer on it that rings all the damn time. finally one of the guys who sits on the other side of the office emailed him and asked him to turn it down because it was "jarring." which we were very grateful for, because we were all just going to grin and bear it to try and make his transition to our department as painless as possible. bottom line: the guy is truly irritating and is completely and totally computer illiterate.
