User I have at work has presentations with .avi and .mpg linked in the same presentation.

The .avi's work great, play when clicked. The .mpgs either go black, go white, or just blink once but don't play when clicked.

They work fine if the file is opened in media player 10 or mplayer2.exe from the command line, but only not opening in Powerpoint. Is there a specific codec I'm missing or any other problem with that?

Don't know much about powerpoint but you can easily convert mpg's to avi's. there's tons of freeware out there that does this.
