Punishment

Offender: Kael, my 5 year old

Victim: Some kid at school

Offense: He spit in the kids face

Reason: He doesnt know why

Principal called today and told me he was sitting in her office, she wouldnt slap him or give him licks even with my permission. But she did make him tell me on the phone what happened, but he mostly just cried the whole time. Then she said she was going to make him sit outside her office in a chair and fill up a cup with spit.

Do you think this is enough? I have already called the afterschool babysitter and told her to sit him in a chair and make him read the whole time he is there (about 3 hours today) Im thinking no tv, no gamecune, and no dessert for the whole weekend (His 3 favorite things) and also Bedtime is school night bedtime. All of this plus a spanking, do you think this is too harsh?

This is his first time inthe principal's office, and I want it to be the last ever. I was in there at least once a week growing up. So I want him to be too afraid to go again.

Thanks.

Is he normally the bully, the one being picked on, or middle line?

Everyone loves him. He's pretty popular, or at least that is what his teachers tell me, and he has never come home crying that anyone is mean to him.

For your kid? No it's not too much. And when he cries, don't go in and tell him you're sorry after an hour of crying like you always did.

That won't be a problem. I work until 9:30 tonight and all day tomorrow and Sunday, so his mean Uncle Dean gets to dole out the punishment. Besides, he is ALOT better than he used to be Tucker, really he is. ANd I'm not so much of a pushover. Regulated bedtimes, he gets the structured punishment when he is bad, and not just sometimes, all the time. Everytime he gets a yellow or red apple in school, he gets the same punishment, I don't let him slide on anything. He really is a whole different kid than what he was. Before it was always, "His dad didn't want him, I feel so bad for him" That doesn't fly with me. I think you would be proud

No need to beat him. Embarrassment is one hell of a punishment when you're a kid.

Normally I would agree but I've seen her son:P

If you've got structured punishment then that's good. He should then know what to expect by the time he gets home. Consequences for his actions.

Well, this is the first time he has been in the principal's office, so it doesn't fit into my punishment "chart" I just don't want it to happen again.

Well he's a smart kid, so if he knows this is worse than anything he's done yet that he's going to get the worst punishment yet.

Shit, Sunday s our work Christmas party and they make a big deal out f it for the kids with getting a santa, etc. Its from 8-10 which is already past his bedtime, but I was going to bring him with me because its one of those things that you dont get to do all the time. Part of me says let him go, the other part says don't. ARGH

Brilliant idea for his punishment!

Make him register on NT and introduce himself. We'll take care of the rest.

He'll wish he was once I get done with him.

I personally don't feel reading should be used as punishment. That will only teach him to hate reading, which is not a good thing.

The spanking is your call. I was spanked as a kid and it was a damn good deterrent. No desert/games is a good thought too. Maybe only have it last for 2 nights so he can still enjoy the party on Sunday with you. Not having him go is punishing you as well. The one thing I would add is have him explain to you *why* what he did was bad, to be certain he understands the reason for the punishment.

Agreed Maeya, all good points. :)

I read somewhere that negative reinforcement is the best type to discipline a kid. Like, lay out a punishment but when he does good things remove the punishment little by little.
