Just got in, anyone else messing around with it? My name is Woochu, level 7 monk, atm.

Not sure what to think of the game so far, but I am surprised by how similar they made the UI and what not to that of WoW's.

What kind of computer do you have and how does it run? If this game is going to require me to upgrade i will just be sticking to wow

It runs fine for me on default settings, occasionally gets a bit rough when it has to load up new models or something, but 95% of the time it's fairly smooth.

I'm using an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1024 ram, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT 256 mb

Once school gets into full swing I'll decide if I have time for it or not.

It's a beta and I'm only level 4 or 5 but it's the same shit all over again. It's just another grind.

Of course it's buggy and a little slow occasionally right now but that's what a beta is about hehe.

I'm actually liking it so far. It's sluggish and buggy though. I bet a year from now it'll be great.

tons of potential

just the bard class alone (if it worked properly) would be reason to pay for the game

I was always interested in playing a Bard but never had the patience to twist songs and such. What makes the bard class cool in V?

If it requires more than 2 hours a week of play time, I will most likely be wasting my money if I try it out.

It's just like any of others that are level based as far as time goes. If you want to keep up with your buddies you have to play. bleh.

Unfortunately this game is not casual friendly. I suggest sticking with NWN2 or other co op games.

In Vanguard, leveling is hugely time consuming and the class designs are very EQ centric. There are some innovative ideas but the problem here is they tried to stuff too much into the class system and it just doesn't work very well for levelling. It's tedious.

I haven't gotten into the higher level stuff, but the teens and twenties are very true to what EQ preached. It'll be good for someone who is hardcore, but very un-casual friendly.

The graphics for a supposed nextgen MMO are lacking in Vanguard, too. I have a nice system and the game just doesn't look anywhere near as good as EQ2. This may be just because things have changed so much. Some areas and critters look very nice. Other areas just look like complete crap.

After playing a good month of this and LOTRO, I feel LOTRO is 10 times the game this is. The only problem is LOTRO is a pure WOW clone, down to the levelling, quests, AH, gear, and interface. It's good if you want more WOW, but in Middle Earth, but it really isn't offering anything new, and even copies WOWs simple class structure

Vanguard is a nice diku clone with some interesting ideas. However, I wouldn't pay cash for it, and wouldn't advise anyone looking for something new to, either. There just isn't enough new and hotness there.

for every song, you can modify it in 3 or 4 different ways

It's kind of a reinterpretation of how you could augment songs with different instruments in EQ

I agree with Lyion except on everything but the graphics. EQ2's graphics look like dogshit compared to Vanguards. EQ2 still has no life to its environment, everything is so fake and stiff.

Turn on flora and fauna and cloth simulation. Makes a huge difference.

EQ2 is stunning without even turning all the graphics up. Not sure what game you are looking at. I cranked it up once and could not move but wow, the heat effects, swaying grass, clothing, etc was awesome.

The problem with EQ2 is it's system requirements are a bit stiff. At the lower resolution it looks like Mannequin Quest. Playing it on my older system, I gotta admit it left a lot to be desired.

However, with a fast Core 2 Duo system, it really looks good. Even with a mediocre system, it looks good. The problem is it doesn't scale to the mid-low end very nicely.

Vanguard looks remarkable in some spots, but in others looks like a cheap Asian MMO. It's almost like they only did half the graphics, and the rest are filler. I guess that's acceptable while in beta. It is a bit odd to have so much of the game be unfinished this far along the development cycle, but given the landmass and continent system, they'll probably be working on it for years after release. The environmental stuff and the crafting is a big step up from EQ, indeed. However, so much of the landmass even with that just looks bleh to me.

The pace of the game, while quicker than old EQ, is still too slow and the class innovations are not enough of a sell for me. I like the fact everything is distinct and there are so many class options, but the game also feels raw and a step back UI/Quest/world wise. It does not feel polished like a game 4+ years into development from the EQ team should.

I like the design document, and if they can make it all work and get the graphics all sorted, the game could be decent. I don't ever see it competing with WOW, and Brad should thank SOE since without All Access I think it never would sell much.

I wouldn't call my system weak by any means and I don't like the way it looked at all.

Been playing the beta since around christmas, I've been enjoying it alot and I don't see what half the complaints are about to be honest. Maybe it's just me but I never could get into WoW but I'm loving VG soi far. Like they said it's got a ton of potential. I still haven't decided what class I'm going to play on release their version of Shadow Knight (death knight) is fun I haven't had any trouble tanking so far (but he is only 11 so we'll see). Bards are alot of fun they do a ton of DPS and instead of getting new songs as you level you get things such as melodies, lyrics, and embelishments. You use these to basicly write your own song that you get to name, it already has 3 or 4 effects going so no twisting (or carpel tunnel for that matter)
