The neat things about Vista are Aero, the sidebars, and the new search. Since I don't use search for anything Vista offers little to me. The only thing I really am interested in is DX10 and I don't think that'll be worthwhile for at least a year.
The advanced DRM also sucks ass. Vista's DRM software kills the quality of High Definition DVDs unless you have a monitor with tspecial DRM technology embedded into it There are also other locks which to me make Vista worse than XP.

This is why I had to uninstall it. It fucked up all my downloaded music from napster (legal stuff not the old shared crap).

I am checking out a copy of Vista Ultimate. No opinion good or bad yet. Inevitably my customers will want it so I might as well get used to it.

I'm digging it so far. It's nothing like windows me at all. This has been very stable, not a single crash or anything and all of my hardware has worked great so far.
I have no complaints yet but we'll see.

Microsoft said that it is slower than other versions of Windows and will slow down your system a bit. That was enough for me to... /pass

Sure doesn't act slower than my XP system. All my games are running great and the OS is more responsive than ever. I think alot of what people are scared of is the bigger demand on the hardware. I think where it will certainly act slower is if you don't have enough RAM and end up paging to disk. I have 2 gigs of ram so that's not an issue for me but it could easily be for others.
It's not for everyone though, if you're not having any problems with XP why upgrade then? I'm a nerd so I wanted the latest OS and as I suspected it the released version runs much better than the RC build I had installed. Even all my music issues have been resolved.

ok to sum up...
1) not compatible with alot of older games.
2) slower than other O/S
3) Expensive as hell
4) rapes MP3's
5) very hardware restrictive.
Yeah Ill run right out and buy it.

Actually it's not that's not compatible with older games, it's that it's not compatible with older WEB based games, even the ones from microsoft LOL.
it's not the hardware, it's the drivers. Microsoft forced a revise of all hardware drivers and they all have to be certified now.
It's not as expensive as it could be, I got my copy of ultimate for 199. You could easily buy the upgrade version and install it right over the top of a clean system and not install the key, then turn around an upgrade vista from vista and then use your upgrade key - which shouldn't work but because of a bug it does work. I wish I had gotten that now lol.
The release version didn't do anything to my music and it wasn't an issue with vista but with napster. Napster's software is quite buggy and they haven't updated the plugin for close to six months.
The only thing vista does attempt to stop people from stealing music, which I don't do.

Kahar, what kind of tech establishment do you work for that you can't get a free copy of Vista?

He doesn't anymore. He's now Director of IT for a private school...

Once vista gets driver support comparable to XP I will get a copy.
It sucks balls as of now. Runs my games like shit, shitty driver support, RESOURCE HOG, and tries to do WAY too much automagically.
