Ok, so since the second of January things have been a little wierd. My boss owns a company in South Hill,VA which is where I used to work. His brother owns a company in Raliegh where I live, he also owns 4 private and charter schools as well.

Anywho...My bud calls me on the second on my cell. I am in the middle of installing a server for someone on site. The Phone calls goes...

Jim: So dude What the fuck? When were you planning on telling me you were interviewing for the admin job of the schools.

Me: Umm when I knew about it?

Jim: shit what the hell hold on let me do some calling....(click)

10 minutes later I find out that my area is being phased out and I am being xfered to his brothers company on some sort of deal they made.

An hour later I show up in VA only to find out that I am being traded to a new position.

I arrive at the new company at 3pm to interview. I chat with the guy that had the position before me. turns out to be an IT director job of the schools. And low and behold I get a 5000.00 raise with upto 5k after my 3 month probation is up.

This is this school has 1000 students, 600 student PC's, 200 Teachers with 200 laptops for them. And some HR lady that thinks that managing 4 servers, 2 domain controllers, about 800 PC's and not to mention any and all electronic equipment ranging from overhead projectors to test card readers....can be done in 20 hours a week by myself.

so fast forward to today...

Im sitting there helping a 10 yearold fix his email box on the server. somehow he has managed to hose something up. I get this email:

Apparently there is an extremely contagious horrible stomach/intestinal virus going around the area that has emergency rooms and doctor’s offices packed!! It reportedly comes on in a matter of hours, which means children could feel perfectly fine when they leave home & then become violently ill suddenly. Some hospitals are calling this the worst virus in decades…you get symptoms with very little exposure and it’s hard to “kill.” Symptoms include severe cramping, vomiting and diarrhea and last 24 to 72 hours. Also, the flu shot reportedly doesn’t cover this one.

About halfway thru it the kid sneezes all over me.

Im enjoying my job but I can't convince the powers that be that this is an actual full time job and not a part time one.

So till then I have to split my time up between a school and a company owned by the same man. The roblem is I am extremely busy over at the school and sitting there without even a phone call coming into my cube for 4 hours a day at the other place.

What does your boss say when you tell him about the dramatic work mismatch between the locations? Why doesn't he just give you responsibility for both, and let you allocate your time accordingly? Is he a control freak? Or are there other constituencies that require that you be on-site at certain times? Can you do work on the school while you're at the other location?

menalaan the problem is this. The VP of HR, has issues with the computer. She thinks the PC is just a really fast way of sending mail and oh yes minesweeper to pass the time.

I could give her a fucking etch a Sketch and she would not figure it out for atleast 2 weeks.

Since she does not know what it takes to run an IT area of the magnitude she does what she thinks should happen without listening to the old admin guy or me for that matter.

Anyone else find it really ironic that the homeschoolers work for the school?

That's a shitty work situation. Maybe you should start saying that you can't get to certain things they ask you for at the school, and suggest that you will have the time to complete them w/o affecting your 2nd location if they give you more flexibility. If you've already done that, maybe you could talk to your old boss about it and see if he can help you?

The irony isn't lost on me. You'd be amazed at how many teachers homeschool, however.

Sorry that you have to live in a place with a retarded education department.

Good parents would raise their children in a good school district~

Better parents homeschool and live where there's work.

So you're saying you're a better parent than every person who doesn't homeschool their child?
