Education/Jobs question

So my brother in law is 33 and sick of his dead end job. He don't want to come and work with me cause he don't like "manual labor".
He's plan is to do Online education in Kapaln University, while working, to get an Associate in IS/Networking, than their 12 month advanced program to get Bachelors in IT/Networking, than get a job in that field and go for Masters in real university for Network and System Security.
Everyone in family is telling him not to do it. My wife wants me to talk him out of it, but i'm not sure if i should
So my question is, is there jobs in this field, and will he be able to get a job with that kind of education?

not with a real company
that's pretty much the most sought after position by companies and there's probably 50 guys at each company(already employed) that are waiting their shot at that job
and education means way way way way way way way way way less than actual hands on experience at all the various levels of IT
just like you'd hire an experienced framer over a guy who'd studied hammers and nails in a book

The key to IS nowadays is specializations and marketable certifications
if he learns SQL Server and SAP and gets certs as well as his Degree, he can make good coin.
Just a degree will get him an entry level job, but it's tough to move up nowadays, and even tougher to get the good training as its very expensive.
The economy is booming and there are a lot of IT jobs. However, they are not the IT jobs of the mid 90s. You actually need skills.

Well, just disdain for manual labor is kinda silly, but some of us physically couldn't do it. For example, my knee is bad enough that I can't even stand for long periods, without it becoming painful to the point of incapacity. So, regardless of what I might want to do, the only jobs I CAN do are ones that you can do while sitting down.

My job is half and half, and I fucking HATE sitting at the desk the whole damn time, get fucking ansy and cant sit still. I don't feel like I earned my keep or whatever either if I dont get to *work* some. More self satisfaction I guess you could say after a good days work, feel better physically too.
Another plus to working on the machinery we build, is that I can only really learn doing it hands on. Theres so much to the hydraulics and electricals and so on on the belt heads and scoops we build that I have so much shit to learn. I have to put the parts with my own hands to really understand how it goes on and fits into the scheme of things.

Some big corporations send their executives there for advanced degrees.

What is it with people refusing to do research and finding REAL schools with on-line programs. You know schools like the University of Maryland, University of Nebraska, University of Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M.... etc and etc...
People INSIST on these shitty, fly by night boarder line diploma mills and wonder why after graduation the only jobs they can get are driving big rigs for some shitty trucking company.
For fuck's sake - just tell him to stop with the diploma mills, pick a REAL school and actually.... omg.... spend time going to that school's site and looking to see what online programs they offer. It's not hard... really.
A so-called "degree" from Kaplan "University" is about as worthless as one from the U of Pheonix, or Bungalo Joe's College of the Bahamas...
When you go out to compete for a job - YES - the school you get your diploma from DOES count. An employer sitting at his desk looking over resumes and sees one person with a degree from Ohio State and another with one from Charter Oak College - who the fuck do you think he's going to give more consideration to? You can try to feed me all the bullshit about "he's going to look at everything" - that's a crock of shit... once he notices one has a real degree from a real school and the other with a degree from a place he's never heard of... you can bet your ass Mr. Charter Oak wont be getting a call-back. Now, sure if Mr. Charter Oak happens to have an ASS load of more experience - then maybe - but I am talking all things being equal.
Please - for the love of God - stop - stop with these online joke programs.
I say again.
1. Decide what you want to major in.
2. Think about the schools you like (real schools).
3. Go to said school's web site.
4. See if they have the program you want.
5. If they do - apply - if they don't - move on to second choice.

There's too many of the "big name" schools that offer online degrees to waste your time with anything else.

He's not right. If he were then big corporations wouldn't "waste" their money sending their managers to get executive MBA's at online schools (which cost the same as some famous universities.) Some online colleges and universities business programs were written by profs from Harvard, UCLA, and others, and they all use the same books pretty much. The quality of education you receive from an online school is EQUAL to that of a brick-and-mortar campus. That's the bottom line.

I'm sorry, Mindia, but while I am sure that some online schools are indeed quite fine, NONE of them is going to give you the same education as a true to-of-the-line MBA program, such as Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, or any of the other top-10 to top-20 schools. Businesses like to send people to the online schools because it doesn't cut into their working hours. While the major MBA schools DO, sometimes, allow part-time enrollment, those slots are even fewer and harder to get than the full time slots, and they turn away approximately 90% of applicants for those full-time slots.

Sorry Mindia, but i have to agree with him, which might be the only issue I do agree with him on. I've even personally done it. When we hired our accountant it was between candidates from West Virginia University and some online community college, who do you think we hired?
