What the fuck was EA thinking? This is the buggiest pile of shit I've ever bought. It's totally unplayable right now because of graphical and sound bugs on my machine. BF1942 plays perfectly but I can't even play a full round of BF:V without shit popping up on my screen. Really I think it will be cool once they release the patch but right now I can hardly play the damn thing.

Damnit... I was going to buy it tonight. Not worth it? Should I look up other reviews?

All I have been reading about is sound issues and stuff. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty fucking cool, I just can't play it...
UT2K4 came out today as well.

I can't stand FPS' that are nothing but running around shooting people all day... I loved counter-strike before... beta 6 or so... but when everyone started playing that desert one where it's all over in 30 seconds... and then cheating... I gave up on it. I wanted to try out BF1942 but never got around to it. Soooo... I *was* looking forward to buying the new one.
Gamespy's review says that the player class choices are pretty lame... graphic bugs etc. How strong is EA with patching big bugs like this? Meaning, will they pull a Blizzard and let the bugs stay in game for 6 months before fixing them?

This is exactly how BF1942 started out. They released the first patch like 2 weeks after release and then like 5 more patches within the next 2 or 3 months...They seem to actually fix their mistakes. I'd still say it's worth your purchase. Also if you can find the UT2K4 DVD edition for under $40 I'd buy it. They hardly made any of those and there's already one on ebay going for $55. I picked that up today and it comes with a coolio Logitech (non-usb) headset.

Strange, I had no problems with BFV. I cranked up all the graphics, 1600x1200 and EAX sounds and it played fine on my system. Load times are horrendous though.
I think they need to tune some of the classes down some but that will happen over time just like the original BF after it came out.

load times are pretty bad for maps for me as well.
when i've gotten into a decent server the game has been fun, but it's pretty rare to find a good server.
the american M60 guy is basically Rambo. that thing chops through infantry like nothing, even when standing. plus that class can pull out an anti-vehicle weapon. they need to switch M60 over to 'soldier' class and give the anti-vehicle guy a rifle.
within a patch or two i'd imagine it'll be hella fun, but it just isn't stable enough atm for me.

Yeah, the basic NVA infantry against the M60 guy is pretty unbalanced. You can jump into a tank and try to kill the guy and still get killed by anti-armor shit. I played the game with settings at low and it's pretty fun but there is STILL sound bugs for me. I'm using Sound Blaster Live! which is supposedly one of the most popular sound cards but the sound is fucked up for me? How can this get past QA? I've never had sound problems with any other game.

Could be sound acceleration?
When I used to have an SB card, many many different games would have terrible sound problems until I turned acceleration all the way down.

I tried pretty much all the settings. Last SB Live update is from Feb 2003, that's all their site lists.

Taxx, does your motherboard have an onboard sound device? 2 reasons, 1, it may be enabled and interferring, and 2, if you've already checked that, maybe disable the SB and try enabling the onboard device to see if that works.

I was really disappointed in this game. EA fucked me a 2nd time by suckering me into a beta. I can't enable eax1,2,3 at all in this game which is quite annoying, sound does work though.
What pisses me off the most is I can't select 1280x1024, only 1280x960. My LCD screen looks like shit because it's optimized for 1280x1024, anything else it gets fuzzy. Hopefully I've learned to never buy another EA game again.

No, it's a seperate fancy pants SB Live card hooked to a frontal input thinger.
