Interesting study from some Brit Scientists.
LONDON - New findings on marijuana's damaging effect on the brain show the drug triggers temporary psychotic symptoms in some people, including hallucinations and paranoid delusions, doctors say.
British doctors took brain scans of 15 healthy volunteers given small doses of two of the active ingredients of cannabis, as well as a placebo.
One compound, cannabidiol, or CBD, made people more relaxed. But even small doses of another component, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, produced temporary psychotic symptoms in people, including hallucinations and paranoid delusions, doctors said.
The results, to be presented at an international mental health conference in London on Tuesday and Wednesday, provides physical evidence of the drug's damaging influence on the human brain.
"We've long suspected that cannabis is linked to psychoses, but we have never before had scans to show how the mechanism works," said Dr. Philip McGuire, a professor of psychiatry at King's College, London.
In analyzing MRI scans of the study's subjects, McGuire and his colleagues found that THC interfered with activity in the inferior frontal cortex, a region of the brain associated with paranoia.
"THC is switching off that regulator," McGuire said, effectively unleashing the paranoia usually kept under control by the frontal cortex.

Uhh. This is seems bizarre. Anyone with any first or second hand experience with the drug will tell you that having MULTIPLE people out of 15 experiencing psychotic breaks on a single occurence simply isn't feasible.
Just what do they consider a "small" dose??? 50 Disney Dollars says they pumped these people full of about 10-15 Joints' worth of THC (which physically is very small) in one sitting.
Misleading bullshit like this is extremely irresponsible. It's like saying that 15 people rapidly consumed 4.2 Liters of alcohol and all of them either died or suffered extensive physiological damage... but neglecting to say that those 4.2 liters weren't a 12 pack of beer (parallel this with all of the plant matter/water/other chemicals in cannabis plants that are not THC), but 100% alcohol.

To observe the effects of both CBD and THC they would have to have been administered independently (otherwise they couldn't be sure which chemical had what effects). Of course someone smoking spot is not getting these two chemicals separate but at the same time. It all really makes sense if you think about it, when someone smokes weed it has the effect of temporary psychotic symptoms however they aren't noticeable because the person is to relaxed to give a shit.

The only psychotic symptom I ever have is an overwhelming urge to eat, but I also get too lazy to get off my ass, so I try to get people to drive me to some fast food place, but invariably they refuse.

this isn't something we didn't already know though-even if you are stoned, you still know it. there are all kinds of herb out there-a lot of it causes anxiety...and if you're stoned/high you don't care if you have anxiety. The anxiety actually is the part (I believe) that causes your mind to "believe" you're seeing things.
it's not the herb-I have never smoked anything that made me see anything-but I've smoked, expanded my mind and in *my* mind they looked differently, only my perception changed.
anything that alters your mind is going to have psychotic consequences, it just depends on how strong the person is and whether or not they choose to realize it for what it is.
