has anyone modded theirs yet?

I've seen a couple of modding chips, but I'm not keen on soldering if I don't have to

I'd be too scared to attempt soldering something that is so hard to find. ><

if devs could consitently put out good, non buggy games, I'd have zero issue paying for games first

now, I have zero issue with an extended trial period before paying

The nintendo games I have for the Wii are all bug free and very entertaining. It's worth the $$$ to buy them, in my opinion.

I'm mostly satisfied with just goofing around with Wii sports for the moment

there's really nothing out at the moment that makes me want to spend money

they're releasing Romance of the 3 kingdoms for the DS

with wifi support

Wii still seems like a gimmick to me.

played it at my brothers place briefly and it was alright

I'm mostly waiting for some developer to really catch on the controls and kick ass with them (kinda like how most DS games for the first year didn't really take advantage of the touchscreen)

The best game for using the Wii Remote that I have is the Harry Potter one.

I'll probably take a look at the madden when it comes out tomorrow, but I just don't see any other titles that have me that interested


unlike the DS which has like 7 or 8 I'm eagerly anticipating (ROT3K, FF4+6 remakes, DQ4,5,6 remakes, DQ9, FF12, etc)

Nothing has come out yet to make me want to buy the system. Every single game that has come out has been a gimmic game designed around the stupid controller. From what I've played the controller is spotty at best and that's all it is...a gimmic. Give me the tight gameplay like every other controller has and then we'll talk.

I used to think that way too, but the controller is a lot of fun even with just the proof of concept games (wii sports)

in general, i still prefer the playstation dual shock controller to anything else, but I see a TON of potential in the wii controllers

coupled with how awesome the DS has been for me, the 200ish bucks was ok for me


(that being said, I still need to decide on a ps3 or 360 just so i can play rockband )

The Wii is to consoles what WOW was to MMOs.

One of my non gamer friends was over yesterday and spent 3 hours playing Golf on the Wii. I don't think she has played three hours of videogames in her life beforehand

Give me the Wii over the 360 any day. The games are simply more fun, period.

Wii sports alone is worth buying the console.

I'm not sure if that's true. If I recall they wanted a Wii to be in every single household and to cater to every type of gamer. What exactly are they putting out for me? Even a decent RPG (not zelda) would want me to buy one but really there's nothing to attract me to buying one yet. Their online is a joke also.

it's not meant for the solo gamer really
it's really aimed at having a bunch of people over all goofing around at the same time

Not sure why people think the controller is a gimmick. Nintendo generally always innovates how people interact with gaming, it's first branded a gimmick, then it's accepted as the norm, usually without people realizing who spearheaded the change. I think part of it is that Nintendo is a real gaming company, that actually develops games and R&D solely, as opposed to Sony and Microsoft that are just huge corporations with a gaming division.

Nintendo was the first to adopt:

D-Pad
Shoulder buttons
Analog stick
Rumble feature
Wii Mote
NES Zapper
Power Glove
Power Pad (updated one coming out soon)
Virtual Boy


Some things work, some things get shelved, but I'm much more inclined to embrace change and innovation than the same tired play experience that eventually gets stale (see: Atari and how they lost in the early 80's). It's just a personal preference. But I don't believe it can be called a gimmick.
