MAC!
WTF? I have HATED Macs with a passion for almost 20 years but my friend was selling his Mac Mini and he is letting me "try before you buy". So far, it's done everything I need it to, flawlessly. OSX REALLY turned them from pieces of shit to really nice computers. Unix kernel with a really nice GUI. The only thing I haven't got working yet is my SSL VPN tunnel to work but PPTP works fine and the MS RDP client for Mac is slick.
I'm trying to hate this fucking thing but it's hard.

MacBook pro! Uses an Intel CoreDuo processor, the video card has enough oomph to drive a 30" monitor at 2500x1600 resolution, can have up to 4 gigs of RAM, etc. Not too shabby for a laptop, honestly.

I am happy with my laptop (Sony VAIO) and I do far too much Windows network related work that a Mac laptop would not be functional. I needed a new desktop as mine was approaching 8 years old and since most of the work I do from home is done through my office terminal server, I figured as long as I had RDP access, I would try something different.

So get Parallels for the MacBook pro. Effectively lets you open a native Windows desktop in your mac OS. Works cause it's the same processor on the mac these days as PCs use. Alternately, there's something called BootCamp which lets you partition your drive and install windows onto the drive, so you can boot to either one.
I've been using a Mac all summer, and while it has its own quirks (Entourage is vastly inferior to Exchange, for example), it's been a fairly solid machine.

A Mac is useless to me in the field. I don't want to be dual booting or switching back and forth between OSs when I am standing on a ladder with my laptop serialed in to a router.

I just got done with a 4 day class on osx support and creating/pushing images. It has some nice features and is pretty easy to move around in.
The best part was I got a new macbook pro out of the whole ordeal, so looking forward to putting vista on bootcamp and getting used to 2 new things on one hoss laptop.

it kinda makes me giggle that it's basically BSD that you pay for though
