Anybody have a favorite? I like Chardonnay with dinner, but I just spent 15 bucks on a bottle of 2004 Corbett Canyon Chardonnay, and I'm not happy with it. It's harsh, raspy, and gives me a little heartburn. I think it's the tannins or sulfites in it. Anyway, if anybody has a good suggestion I'll try it out. And no, I'm not buying any Charles Shaw "2-buck Chuck."

You spent $15 on a bottle of wine, and you are disappointed with it? Hello, you only spent $15!! While you can get a few good wines for $15, you choices would be very limited. Try a Pinot Grigio instead.

I had half a bottle of $9 champagne the other night and was especially pleased with it.

Chardonnays, like most table wines, aren't typically "expensive" wines. I like Pinot Grigio too, but I'm looking for a nice Chard.

I know about wines, I just dont think you are gonna get a great Chardonnay for $15 unless you have a special winery in your area.

Yeah, he's literally 1-2 hours away from the premier wine growing region in the entire United States, if not the entire world. (Both major blind tasting competitions held with California vs French wines, the California wines have won, hands down.)

So, Wine isn't exactly difficult to obtain, and you can easily find good stuff for as low as 10 dollars, without having to descend to the nether realms of schlock like 2-buck-chuck.

My own personal favorite vineyard, Sattui, only sells wine by direct mail order or by going to the vineyard and picking it up in person. AWESOME wines, for low prices even. Best dry Riesling ever. Period. Bar-none. I've had $40-50 German Rieslings that couldn't hold a candle to it. Their Chard is pretty good too, as is their Cab, and, well, all of their wines, really.

It's fruity, but not anywhere near as sweet as most rieslings. It's not so dry as to be unpleasant, but it's definitely got a serious crispness to the flavor. I don't like wines that are too sweet, they taste like syrup or something. (when I buy canned fruit, I always get it in natural juices for the same reason). Anyway, they get this one just right. No syrupy clinginess, but full flavor. MMmmmmm. Now I want a bottle, dammit. rofl.

Oh, and Mindia, I don't like Chardonnay. I have had one that was bearable it was $40 for one bottle.

Chardonnay is not part of the High Life.

Sort of topical... I really love looking at all the different labels on wine bottles and seeing all the shapes & colors of the bottles for the other liquors. That'd be such a neat job- designing wine labels and liquor bottles.

V. Sattui is one of our fave wineries to visit when we go to Napa. We buy easily a case there but we haven't been out in a few years.

We live in Oregon wine country so mainly we are drinking Pinot's up here. I'm not a white drinker typically but we have a lot of different reds sitting around the house right now. mmmm wine. Too bad it's off limits for another 7 months.

So you've had Sattui's dry riesling before, Savvy?

I may be misremembering Sattui's chardonnay, but I seem to recall a sensation of creaminess (like you get with an orange cream soda), and definite flavors of vanilla. That may have just been one vintage, though.

Patrick likes their Riesling which is rare since he doesn't typically go for them. It's not one of my top picks though. Our fave there was actually the Gamay Rouge and we got a good Madeira last time that we've used for cooking and for after dinner drinks. The Muscat is a great Dessert wine too We also buy Cabs from them. We need to do another trip someday but it'll be a while now. There's a great b&b we use each time we go in Napa. We belong to the Sokol Blosser wine club here too so wine shortage in our house is never an issue!
