Well, this is certainly a feather in his cap, I must say. Especially the way Powell repudiates the McCain campaign's lines of attack, re: Ayers, ACORN & the idiotic "Socialist" commentary.
i think im one of many people who would of had powell for president for the last 8 years instead of bush.
im paticuarlly impressed with powells comments on the racism in the mcain campain insinuating that obama is muslim

I think people DO want to hear about Ayres and the other issues Obama would love to see swept under the rug.
I am just sorry to see Powell stoop to pulling the race card. Never thought it'd come from him...
Edit --
I am referring to his "electing an african-american would be electrifying for the world comment" he made back in Sept. I suspected then he was going to announce his support for Obama.

How is Obama NOT a socialist? He has plans for the redistribution of wealth, government controlled health care and energy, more government control on other industries as well, gun banning... etc. He sounds VERY much like a socialist to me. He believes government is the answer to everything. The dude is a socialist, plain and simple.

I really just can't take all this socialist talk from the board idiots anymore. You're talking about 1% income here...Really is that so much different than the wealth redistribution form the republicans? Give me a break with all this socialist talk, it's all just right-wing spin to scare mongoloidish people from voting for someone they're already afraid of. Last year it was "you can't vote for the dems, they're pussies and won't be able to protect you (voir Harrison - he was wrong) and now this year is all this socialist talk about wealth redistribution coming from morons like Hannity and Glenn Beck and here we go again with people parroting these asinine statements.

It's not 1%, dumbass, it's raising capital gains taxes during a recession which is stupid, it's taxing companies that will pass on those taxes to consumers, as well as offshore since we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world, and it's socializing and moving to a nationalized health care setup that will cost trillions.
Stick to your own country, of which you are a clueless fuckstick about when talking, so you don't look even more idiotic than usual, you fucking douchebag.

And maybe sometimes you should look at his country to get better ideas for ours, because I don't understand for one second what's wrong with nationalized healthcare. I can't honestly think of anything more important, or anything that should be more important, than the well-being of your country's citizens. People with good health insurance file for bankruptcy almost as much as people without it. Fuck I'm even seeing sad-bastard TV commercials about it nowadays. I've been in and around the hospital here my entire life, and it's the saddest place in the world because peoples' lives are ruined on a daily basis over shit they have no control over. It's ridiculous. If you don't support this, you're selfish imo.
Healthcare can be a public system without being socialized and you guys seem to think it can't. Like I referenced earlier, you only have to look at Canada to see how well the system is set up... what are the major problems with the system? wait times... which kinda suck here already. And I think it costs their gov't about $160 billion a year to cover 70% of all medical costs while the rest of funded privately. I have no idea why you think it'd cost us trillions. Just sounds like you're afraid of change. Or you think that giving a small fraction of your money to help support public healthcare is a waste of your money. Weird. I guess they call you guys conservatives for a reason

Here are some posts from some Canadians on Univ. Health Care.
It doesn't work. What... six US states have tried a state version? And ALL have failed. I think Mass is trying it now - don't quote me on that as I haven't looked into it yet.
A former GF of mine is a doctor, as are a few of my friends - they all have said they'll leave the medical field if Universal Heath Care is adopted. Why? Because they're hands will be tied on the treatments they can or cannot provide, and their pay will drop like a rock. Hospitals will be required to cut costs at every corner. The system will be clogged (just like one of the poster in the link I pasted above said) with fucktards who have the sniffles. There is a REASON why Canadians come to the US for health care...
Here is a good article by the Cato Institute talking about why it won't work.
It's quite long but it will show you with real life examples why it is a really stupid idea.
The US government is anything but reliable and efficient. Do you really want some jackass government worker to make choices about YOUR health? You scream all you want that it won't be that way... I am telling you... it will.
The government has already begun to steal out personal freedoms with Bush's fucked up "Patriot Act" / "FISA" et al. The recent bail out plan now gives the government control over something on the order of 25% of our economy. Add to all this Obama's plan to "take over health care," "energy" and everything else... It this really the type of country you want to live in?

Massachusetts is forcing you to get health coverage or they will whack you big on your taxes. The extent beyond that I haven't checked, honestly.
That much I do know...

Fuck no. I've never wanted to live here. It wasn't my choice to be born and raised here and I don't have the money to do anything about it. so I'll just keep playing with the hand I got dealt for now and hope that after November I get a great river because the flop and the turn card this election are fucked-up

I'll give my prediction on what's going to happen if/when Obama gets elected. It's just my prediction but so obviously I could be completely wrong.
1. Taxes will go up on everyone. Sure, he says he's going to cut taxes for the middle class. Anyone really dumb enough to believe that deserves to have their money taken from them. He's not going to cut taxes. Taxes WILL go up.
2. I believe we'll be attacked again and reasonably soon after the election (maybe within 6 to 8 months). Even Biden himself said that he will be "tested." Basically, Americans are going to have to literally die so this fool can prove how "tough" on national security he *plans* to be.
4. Wall Street will be in ruins. The DOW will PLUNGE to even new record lows as they predict the end of capital gains tax breaks and higher taxes on businesses in general.
5. Jobs will be lost and unemployment will rise considerably as this idiot raises taxes on small business forcing said businesses to cut positions or close up shop.
6. His redistribution of wealth will hamper the investment of money into the market - also putting a damper on job growth and economic stability.
7. Abortion will be turned into a nationally funded means of birthcontrol where teenagers will have them without permission from a parent.
8. Extremest liberal judges will be appointed to the Supreme Court who will shread the Constitution in their effort to create a "socialist euptopia."
But, he's going to bring CHANGE! Oh well, you have been warned.

this IS the political section of the board
It's good that people talk about it openly. New ideas can be exchanged and people may see a different point of view that may cause them do some research.

And I think you're worse than Chicken Little screaming about how the sky is falling. I disagree on pretty much every single one of your points. Seriously, I think you need to see a shrink and get your case of acute paranoia looked after.
I mean, who on this board correctly predicted how bad Bush's 2nd term would be if he was elected? Me, among other people. I seem to recall you and other people praising his name. I was right then, and I'm right now.
Oh, and Mindia, Powell specifically said it wasn't even close to being all about race, otherwise he would've endorsed him months ago. It's about policy positions, temperament and readiness to hold the office, along with his displeasure at the kind of extraordinarily negative and divisive campaign that McCain has been running.

LOL.
Did you not see, with your eyes, and hear, with your own ears, his own words about slashing the military apart?
Did you not see and hear his own running mate speaking about him [Obama] being tested?
Do you have any ties at all the market? I do.
Do you really believe he's going to CUT taxes on the middle class when our debt is in the TRILLIONS and with his plans to provide health care to every Tom Dick and Harry in the country?
You're the one who needs a shrink.
You talk about how you're not one of the proverbial Kool-Aid drinkers. But I sware to God he could come out on National TV announce his plans to destroy the universe and you'd come back with "well he really meant this or that... and it's a good idea..." I sware to God you would.

Hard to stomach the truth eh? lol That's why I can't stand MORONS like the "rev" jesse jackson, al sharptongue, etc. They are preaching that the "the man" is holding them down, and that democrats are fighting for them. ROFL. Ghetto folk should look up to REAL heroes like Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, and even Bill Cosby... all men with integrity who teach their people they can rise up and do something with their lives... that they CAN get off of assistance if they APPLIED themselves.
So Mindia let me get this straight, two weeks ago Colin Powell was a REAL hero, a man with integrity who was going to teach his people to "rise up" now he's a "brutha" helping out a "brutha" because he acknowledges that McCain is running a terrible campaign, probably does not have the temperament to sit across from world leaders without starting a war, chose an idiot for a running mate and is all about everything that Bush is all about. You can't even keep the shit you sling straight.
