what's overrated about starcraft, anyway? the fact that it's accessible and many people can play it and enjoy it? the fact that every friend i have irl still owns a copy of it somehwere and some of them do LAN parties between terms for it? you must be confusing "overrated" with "it's a classic"

diablo 3 looks like shit. i'm not interested in that game at all, yet. it looks like more WoW and cartoon graphic crap. and you know i still play diablo 2 every day. but seriously, dungeon siege 2 looks better than d3 so far

Out of all the RTS games I've played Starcraft was probably the worst.

It's ridiculously overrated. The Warcraft series had it beat hands down across the boards.

Warcraft didn't beat it at anything. It's the same exact game with different subject matter. Same mechanics, same COMPANY, same everything.... stop trying to talk shit about it. You can't. You're preaching to the choir. It's a classic. Best storyline, best level of enjoyment, best learning curve, everything. I'm going to keep that game around for my future kids because I enjoyed it so much.

My friend really likes RTS games... he's played them solely for years now. His favorites are probably all your favorites.... but he dives further into the game. He realised after 3 or 4 weeks of talking shit about it, that Spore is actually seriously badass and hard when you get to the space age. If you want it to be. I think games are basically all about what you want them to be.... I've come to like a lot of games that I used to hate before, simply because I decided not to hate them anymore. You'd be amazed at what you might like if you stop being pretentious~ and that extends to everything... music, film, whatever.

I remember you actually saying one of the songs I sent you would sound great if it didn't sound like they were in a tin can. I laughed because I could never think about music like that. You're still listening to it for technical clarity and superb studio work.... you're not picking up on the feeling behind it. Or realising if you were in a bar hearing it live that it would fucking blow you away

I can make anything artificially more difficult, that doesn't equate to a better game.

Spore is probably the biggest letdown in gaming in the past 5 years or more. I blame EA almost entirely.

I'm not even talking about "difficulty". That's what I'm making fun of you about. Because that's all you care about are the technical aspects of the game. Don't you ever just relax and play easy games? And have fun? I rank Spore on the difficulty level of Katamari and Monkey Ball...

I'm so thankful that my girlfriend gets pissed at me whenever I play a game that's harder than Mario. It's so much more fun to play easy games with her than worry about the difficulty of a game made for 10-year-olds. What did you seriously expect? A game as demanding as supreme commander? This is coming from the same guy that made the Sims. You can't even make your sim jump over a fence.

Spore is nice because of the creativity it affords the user. It's a great game for rainy days, hangovers, sleepless nights, gaming newbs, etc.

And that's basically why Starcraft is, was, and will forever be, a great game. It's easy, everyone likes it, the story's endearing, it's fun to watch stuff blow up and see blood fly everywhere, etc. etc. The game's a classic

I don't play easy games and have fun. The idea of something being easy bores me to tears. I've always been that way.

That doesn't make me an elitist. I just want something out of my games that most people don't, a challenge.

If I don't feel like I've improved or at least tried to overcome a challenge, it's a waste of my time. This goes for everything, not just games.

Besides, there's easy games out there I enjoy playing with friends. They're just not the norm for me. I require a challenge to have fun.

I don't have fun playing easy games either. If I am not getting my ass handed to me every 45 seconds in a single player FPS, I'll get bored very quickly. I always play on the most difficult setting even if it takes me months to finish it. I am still trying to finish Call of Duty 2 on Veteran! Fucking HARD!

you really gotta break the american habit of thinking in polar opposites, man. i never said all i do is play easy games. you of all people on this board should know that all i generally do is play hard games on hard. but i also am not an arrogant prick and i will openly admit that in between my hard games i'll relax with a little bit of katamari or something because my girlfriend and her nephew don't relaly care about winning games on hard. because her nephew's FIVE.... see what i mean?

and you see, you are a video gaming elitist. the normal population would not give two flying fucks about half the stuff you probably take as seriously as the military. you just need to realize that. and not try to act like it makes you cool or something. just play it off... keep that knowledge up there for when you run across someone else who cares as much as you do. because that's basically nobody here

that however i can't agree with. i don't understand single player games. but i guess i have an addiction to social interaction

i am actually playing one single player game but my friend's playing it at the same time so we can talk about all the shit we do. playing games alone was always extremely boring to me

If you want difficulty levels playing Starcraft, go try and play your way into the professional ranks and see how you do. Hell, I watched some matches at Blizzcon, and saw the top player walk away with a check for $30,000 or $40,000. Try and take on that level of player, and I am sure you will find all the challenge you ever wished for.

I also don't press the limits of gaming to the point of turning it into a fucking job either. That would sap the fun out of it entirely. Like when I used to sell Platinum on EQ for hundreds a week. It got old FAST. It wasn't a game anymore.

Believe it or not, I do have a life better than practicing 18 hours a day twitching macros on a 10+ year-old game no one cares about anymore, except Korea.

yet you still play diablo 2. i don't honestly see the difference except replace "korea" with "taiwan" and "spamming macros" with "botting hammerdins"

Diablo 2 is one of those examples of games I only play with (and as the result of) friends.

Ahhhh, but your argument holds no water when it comes to Starcraft 2, now does it? It is hardly a "10 year old game that no one outside Korea cares about."

I would wager to say it's one of the most anticipated titles out there at the moment. If you work at that upon release, you are hardly working on an OLD game. And again, I am sure that if you try and challenge those who aspire to professional status you will find all the challenge you need, regardless of how difficult or easy the single player version is.
