Well, Microsoft did announce 2 weeks ago that they were discontinuing Vista because of all the conflicts it causes with certain PC components, and they are now focusing on Windows 7. :dunno:

Windows 7 seems to be quite a bit more stable, way less hardware resource hogging issues, and is what vista should have been

I'm still probably not going to upgrade from XP for a while, but after playing with windows7, I'm not going to be concerned about it coming with any future machines

The one thing that XP lacks is DirectX 10. If you have a DX10 capable card, it can make a difference graphically on games that support it.

Dick move by not making xp support DX10.

They did that fucking shit on purpose.

I really like Vista. There are a lot of great new features. After SP1 it became ultra solid. I get a better 3d mark score in Vista than I do in XP. Not to mention it is the best x64 platform available.

There's nothing wrong with Vista really. MS marketed it poorly and released it too soon.

new technology. god beams and stuff for light. it's just something to be nitpicky about. normal gamers wouldn't care. i know i don't. i only want vista because of the glass aeros and its fresh design. if windows 7 can be as friendly as xp with all my software i'll prolly make the switch

Yeah, it running like complete ass and ruining half of my game's ability to run properly/efficiently is "nothing wrong".

Vista is a piece of fucking shit. I thought it would be like xp and at least be good at a year after release...but no, it's still fucking garbage.

some shader stuff I think

I've seen my XP laptop beside a friend's exact laptop running vista

there's a difference
but if you're not side by side, I don't think you'd pick it out

Here's some samples:

Microsoft Flight Sim in DX9

Same shot in DX10

Age of Conan in DX9

Same shot in DX10

Another AOC DX9 shot

2nd AOC shot in DX10

Some pretty hefty differences, actually. It's a big enough difference it would almost be enough to go to Vista, if it wasn't so bad for everything else.

I've seen very minor differences in how games play. Turning off unnecessary services and streamlining the install will help.

If a game's really giving you too much trouble then just set up a dual boot for xp

That's just impractical to me. I could do that but, why? Vista offers me absolutely no benefits over xp. XP does everything I need it to, and does it well.

I don't need x64 support, which is about the only thing Vista has. Because I don't need more than the 3 some odd gigs I have left usable by XP. (only 4 gigs is allocated to ALL devices so even with 4 1gig sticks in, you will likely have 3.2 or so visible and usable in XP)

Windows 7, I have some hope for however.

P.S. I say that about x64 because XP x64 is garbage...
