Not as cool as a burka...

I'm heading out to Korea in 2 months. Going to spend a year in beautiful Gunsan City. I should find out next week where I will be headed after my tour there. My top choice was Hawaii, followed by Vegas, OH, FL, DE. I'm pretty sure I'll get Hawaii though.

Sucks I'm leaving my daughter, my dream job and the best place I've lived. At least it'll be an adventure.

Curious, what is it you do in the military?

I'm in IT. Currently, I'm in charge of plans/programs/installs of classified networks in the DC area. We install in office buildings throughout the area...not unlike a Classified Verizon. We deal with a lot covert activities and customers. It's a ton of responsibility and a ton of pressure, but it's the coolest shit in the world.

I've done it all though. Before this, I ran the Global Command and Control Systems shop in Colorado for AF Space Command and got to help stand up the NORTHCOM command Center. Before that, I worked in a Space Weather Squadron where we monitored solar flares working with NOAA, DoD, NASA etc. I've also done intel, base comm, and tactical combat comm.

I'm not sure what kind of comm I'll be doing in Korea, but it'll be fun and a challenge (most one year assignments are mess due to no continuity)

If there was an open slot in the school I would have done 25B (Information Systems).

I didn't want to wait around a year at the time. So I chose 68W (Combat Medic). If I get the chance and still feel up to it after my contract is up, I might reclassify to 25B or a related MOS. I'm not sure if that's anywhere near the same as what you do, but I initially wanted to do that. I even got my security clearance for it ahead of time.

25B would be roughly the same as working as a field tech for an ISP. Its mostly troubleshooting, as you get higher in rank with more responsibility you will see more interesting stuff but it takes a while.
