You have no idea who the Mammas and the Pappas are?
You've never heard the songs, "Monday, Monday" or "California Dreaming"?

Geez I used to watch the show and had a big crush on Burtenelly(sp). Damn Phillips is SCREWED up, that is just beyond sick.
Had a crush on another chic from a show, damn can't recall her name now, last flic I remember seeing her in had Tatum O'Niel and Matt Dillon back in the 70's, Matt Dillon and this girl ended up having sex and the movie was about these girls going to camp and who or who didn't have sex first.
Sorry for the name typos, who can name the move / girl I'm talking about LOL?

quite frankly, I think she's coming out with this story now because the media will pay for it and otherwise no one even gives a shit or knows who she is. the only reason I have a clue who she is is from watching animal planet, during which I always said "why does that lady look so strung out and crazy." oh, because she was.
I don't know, I think it was no longer "that poor woman" when it became consentual and repeated. I didn't see it in that article, but she's been quoted saying "don't blame my father" etc. She's fucked up because she's fucked up.. no one forced her into her addictions, and it doesn't take rocket science to realize sex with your dad isn't normal.

i dunno, i kinda see it as similar to when kidnapped kids start cooperating with their kidnapper or even feel loyalty to them or whatever--what is that, stockholm syndrome?? i dunno. i just don't think she's entirely to blame for this, and really, it explains a lot about her and why she's such a pile of crazy.
i used to love her in the disney channel series "so weird" hehe

Her father gave her cocaine when she was 11 and taught her how to do heroin as a teenager. Sure he didn't force her to do anything but when you're 11 years old and your famous dad tells you "the rules dont apply to you because you're my daughter" then he hands you cocaine, you might be more inclined to take it than if you were a normal kid who was offered it at a frat party by some stranger.

no I get that - and by no means do I think the blame lies entirely on her. Her dad's a shitbag if all she says is true, no doubt. However, at some point in your life you have to take responsibility for your own actions. When a child is abused and grows up to become an abusive parent, do you just say "oh that's okay because he was abused and doesn't know any better"? No, because at some point you stop blaming your childhood for your shortcomings and get the strength to move past them. I guarantee you more women have dealt with some form of sexual abuse than not, and not all of them grow up to be coke whores who fuck their dads for 10 years. No one had a perfect childhood, and I'm aware that hers was far worse than most - I sympathize with the pain she went through back then, but for crying out loud. She was 19 when she first had sex with him, not a child. She says she was in a drug induced stupor, who knows, but she wasn't raped every time for the next 10 years and has said as much.
My opinion might change *slightly* if her book is donating proceeds to charities for abused women or something, but as it stands it doesn't look to me like a woman reaching out for help or trying to educate the masses so much as a woman on her last leg financially trying to profit from a truly sensational story.
I don't know, call me a cynic. I mean it's easy to say "oh you poor thing" but the pieces just don't fit well enough for me to do that.

O you mean like that kidnapped chick in Cali who mothered 2 kids, what an idiot she was, WTF, should could have gone to the cops at anytime.
The mind works in strange ways, if what she said is true, she is mentally screwed for life most likely.
In this case, she had several things give her reinforcement to NOT do anything. To make it seem like this was "ok".
Again if she isn't lying, you can see she is still fucked up now, "My dad was a good man, he just did a few things wrong" "My dad all he could be but his childhood was pretty bad". She is defending the person whom rapped and sexually / mentally tortured her, but "he's a good man".

He was a folk artist, not a rapper.

I think the Dugard case was a bit different actually in regards to stockholm syndrome because a) she probably wasn't able to go to the police when she was younger and b) by the time she had babies, that's her nuclear family and with how badly she was sheltered and how well she felt she was treated she couldn't tell the difference. I just don't think she had the resources to distinguish right from wrong because they were deliberately taken from her.. she was like a lab rat.
Phillips on the other hand had the money, the resources, the knowledge, the exposure to the outside world.. she's acknowledged she knew it wasn't normal. Again, she was of legal consenting age when it first happened. The question is how truthful she's being regarding the consent. I think to put Stockholm Syndrome on her would be a bail-out and is the type of attention pity party she's looking for.. I'm just not buying it.

Yeah but again, she claims to have gone to someone but they shut her down because of the "do you know what will happen to your career, or to your dads career", etc.
That and if you look at addiction re: the type of drugs she was doing, who was her candyman, it was dad. So you shut down dad and your stream of drugs goes away.
I do hear you though and I agree it is a bit stinky but I could also see how she could get caught up in this. I just look at damn near every "famous" teen actor and it is almost always the same, sex, drugs, and violence.
EDIT
Yeah, I was a typo machine yesterday :p
