I thought it was just a side scroller like the original SMB. I am assuming whatever four way play you're referring to are mini games?

Nope, the multiplayer is on the single screen side scrolling along. All four simultaneously...

maybe if you're a greedy biotch. but the coins are counted together and a power-up block spits out a power-up for each person
it's just a new mario game. but you can all play at the same time. it's awesome in every way
