Need a new MP3 player

Ok, so I got sucked into the whole "hey look I have an iPod!" thing... now I have gotten so utterly sick and tired of Apple's bullshit.
I am selling the piece of shit 32gig iTouch I have and want to get something that actually WORKS on any computer I want, will allow me to drag and drop any song file I want... etc.
Fuck Apple.
What I also need is something that can withstand workouts and has a menu... ok... menu. I don't want something like an old gen sandisk that makes you click click click through song after song till you find the one you want. What I DO like about the Suckpod is the menu list that allows you to scroll through your albums and songs to find the one you want.
Soooo... any suggestions?
By the way... Fuck Apple. I will NEVER give those fucks another dime.

learn how to use itunes and it IS a drag and drop that you can put on any computer as long as your friends aren't using some gay ass media player like WMP or something
you are such a whiny twat dude

fuck apple indeed! i'm perfectly satisfied with my sansa clip
no bullshit apple fuckery, drag and drop your files, menu search (by artist, album, or song), recharges via USB, FM radio for listening to baseball broadcasts, built-in mic for espionage
they are under $40 too, because they only store 2-4GB depending on the model. that sounds tiny if you're used to the iPile storing ALL your music, but i say fuck that-- all my music is on my comp, and it takes <1min to transfer an album (and i listen to music by the album anyway)
or you could take the blue pill and go back into the Steve Jobs matrix

nice. That's what I need. Yeah I don't need 239488759393 gigs of space. Workouts are like an hour to an hour and a half - I don't need 50 hours of music to have to weed through. I just need something simple that stores enough songs for a couple of hours.
I'll check it out sansa clip.
I downloaded a Keane album the other day on my work PC... can't use iTunes on that machine to add it to the iSuck... so I copied it to a thumb drive and brought it home... copied it to my music directory on the machine that has the iSuck registered... guess what? Can't add it there either.... I don't want something as simple as adding a music file to a media device to take more than a few seconds without having to deal with Apple's fuck-you-in-the-ass-proprietary-ism.

lol sucks for you dude. i think i've put a couple albums from my personal PC onto the ipod but other than that i get the rest of my music from other peoples' machines. and i keep a flash drive with iTunes 9 on it for the unfortunates that don't have it already (only one person so far, thank god). i've never once experienced the problem you're describing. it sounds like you're just really stupid. have you checked the "Manually manage my music" box on the iPod home screen?
you just remind of the people that write reviews like "FUCK ITOUCH I CAN'T EVEN SYNC MY FUCKIN APPS THAT I JUST BOUGHT YOU FUCKIN MONEYGRABBING MOTHERFUCKERS" because they didn't have the "sync applications" box checked
and brinstar whatever you just talked about sounds exactly like my nano. exactly. except now nanos have accelerometers and video cameras too. perfect for nike + ipod sensor workouts
i wouldn't trade my iPod for any other media player. the rest just lack too much. i want more than "just an mp3 player". the iTouch is like a fuckin tricorder or something. absolutely badass and the possibilities are endless
plus you know, if you're really that anti-iTunes you can, um, google stuff, and find one of the thousands of iPod managing applications that are out there before you waste your $300 and settle for some cheap plastic offshoot

There are ways to make the iPod drag and drop.
I get the hate tho. I don't care for iTunes either.
That being said since I'm semi committed now if your iPod is in decent shape I may be willing to take it off your hands

Get an iPod and just use Winamp to handle your music.

Fuck Apple's propriety bullshit. Their products aren't spectacular enough to warrant the bullshit entailed to keep them the way you want them.
I prefer a zune personally.

we've been over this a hundred times. you think itunes is god's gift to music fans, i think it's clunky shite, you get indignant and condescending, i roll my eyes, and nothing ever changes. though i'm glad you've made the gracious decision to bring your iHaughtiness into this thread, it just reminds me that most iWhores are rabidly defensive shills that assume anyone that doesn't see it their way is either wrong, an idiot, or both. i guess that makes me one of your "unfortunates" (really? "unfortunates?" could you possibly be more snobby about this?),
oh no, how will i ever reconcile my life with this terrible character flaw

-- but if anyone ever showed up at my place and plugged in a flash drive with the intent of installing itunes on my PC, rest assured i'd plug my foot in their ass with the intent of installing an anal fissure
oh, and bonus lol:
"waste your $300 and settle for some cheap plastic offshoot" -- um, 1) my suggestion was right up diekan's alley for <$40, 2) plastic? i'm afraid i don't get the iNewsletter-- when did they switch from making ipods out of plastic to making them out of steve jobs' calcified semen? and 3) offshoot? huh? like there was no such thing as an mp3 player before apple shat one out? not everyone is interested in an mp3 player that can give turn-by-turn directions to the nearest starbucks or american apparel outlet. please explain how a sansa clip is in any way an offshoot of the ipod

I love you sometimes man. Just fyi.
Oddly enough, I agree with everyone in this thread. The iPod touch is a quality device and does plenty of stuff. You don't have to use iTunes to manage your music at all and there really aren't many other devices out there that have the iPod touch's vast assortment of functionality. At the same time, if you're just looking for an mp3 player that doesn't do all the crazy shit that a touch does, there's plenty out there. Of course, Apple also has the nano and the the shuffle for simpler functionality.
I actually had a talk with Tikker about the iPod touch on aim and how I have one and never use it. Only thing I have against Apple is it's consumer base. Only reason I don't use my iPod touch is because if any of the Apple enthusiast mongoloids see me using one, they'll be prompted to talk to me which makes me suicidal. I live in Marin County where everyone owns an iPod touch or an iPhone and if I have to hear 1 more hollister fitted, surfer wannabe, closet stoner tell me about his "I'm Rick James bitch" soundboard app on his iPhone I'm going to jam screwdrivers in each of my ears and eyes and render myself unable to use an ipod. Apple makes great products but fuck their consumers are a giant mass of drooling retards.

heeeee! this was fantastic, and is also exactly how i feel. also, thank you for using the proper name of the device (touch) instead of saying iTouch. i don't know why, but that drives me crazy. it's not iNano or iShuffle. it's touch, nano, and shuffle.
of course, i think this pickiness on my part stems from my working on consumer electronics publications where the proper names of products are drilled into our brains.

My current theory is that iTunes has such shitty software that it ends up breaking your iPod. I have never had a problem with my iPod (A 30g iPod video I bought four years ago) and I use it daily. Everyone I know who has a broken one, or had to send it in to Apple for service uses iTunes.

I got a base unit + 2 Walkman type units in the mid 90s. I didn't start using them until 1999 or thereabouts at which point I had to do direct recordings on my recordable media, so it was a pain in the ass; however the things are bombproof as far as technology goes. The disks themselves are accident proof, I've dropped the walkmen in puddles in the rain and shit like that; no damage. About the only thing I have not done is take it to the beach because I have a deathly fear of sand after losing several Walkmen and great mixtapes to the pitfalls of sand.
If my Zune hadn't been stolen, I'd still be using that though.

I have the same iPod. The face was all scratched up so I bought a replacement face for $8 on ebay. It came with two opening tools. I looked up the tutorial on ebay and it worked like a charm, it's like brand new again.
And you can buy any replacement part you want. Batteries are like $10. I plan on having this player until they stop making parts for it.

I have some old iPod. No color screen, so it's not a newer one. I use/used it a lot. Works fine. Used iTunes to load it with. Nothing ever broke or crashed or didnt sync or whatever. The scroll wheel stuck every once in awhile, but that was because it floated around in the bottom of my Mary Poppins bag when I wasnt using it and picked up who knows what.
Stop ragging on iTunes. iTunes isnt the problem. It's a terrible terrible program, but it isnt the problem.

sometimes it is. iTunes seems to be based on single person use. It's not really any good for a household. For how I use my media media player/mce is much better
There are some benefits to iTunes butmostly it sucks

I let a friend borrow my iPod once and said she could put her music on it. Little did I know that with iTunes, in order to put music on an iPod on a new computer, you have to clear all the music that was previously on it and "sync" the thing. What kind of retarded bullshit is that?

it's just the way it works
it's just different from how everything else works
for some people, it's great
I'm starting to appreciate that when I plug it into the laptop before I go to bed, that it's loaded with new podcasts the next morning
my previous mp3 player was a k-pex (kingston, little 2-4 gb player great audio, fm receiver, you could store some video on it, etc etc)
i'm adjusting to iTunes bit by bit, but there's just no way I'll ever get past the dislike of it, completely

I had an ipod and returned it and now I use my snazzy pink Sansa 2gb clip. It's really user friendly and requires no guess work or drama. I know lots of people that love the ipod touch and I know people that loathe it. It just depends on what you are willing to put up with and what you want from your player.

I never knew so many people despised iTunes as much as I do! I always bitch with my brother (apple whore) about how much I hate iTunes. He seems to think it’s the best program in the world and anyone who doesn’t like it just isn’t smart. It makes me happy that other people hate it as much as I do.
I still like my touch though.
