For only $699 plus the additional expense of a n AT&T monthly data plan, you too can have an iPad.

My post beat you by one minute. Obviously superior.

I don't think going 3G with it is necessary though. $499 w/ WiFi should be sufficient most of the time. Though that is with my own usage in mind.

i think they picked a really interesting price point

for me personally, it's just totally the wrong size (the touch is perfect for mobile, my 17" laptop for real computing)

it's just really a big ipod touch tho, and that's a little disappointing

was hoping for something with a lot more whizbang to force everyone else to innovate too

i think it's safe to say it'll have a little more power than the touch, heh. the intent, as i'm sure many of you saw jobs talking about, is to use it like you read a magazine. it's for sitting down in a big chair and relaxing. for that it makes perfect sense. for everything else? keep your netbook or your touch or whatever

also as with the iphone and touch, what makes or breaks these machines are the apps you use. there is some seriously cool shit out there

Meeting with some application developers later today to discuss potential applications.

no flash

no USB

How can you advertise your product as the internet in the palm of your hands and not have Flash? You sure about that?

And no USB is pretty dame lame too. I wonder if that's just a measure to keep people from getting files on their device that doesn't pass through the Apple money filter.

This must be Apple's idea of the ultimate browsing experience with the internet in the palm of your hands:

I disagree. For the most part almost all apps are completely useless. I thought the apps for the touch would be great since there's so much demand but developers are completely useless.

how's that any different from the anti-apple bandwagon that hates apple simply because it's apple?

it's no small wonder that every phone wants to be an iPhone now, every laptop wants to be a Mac Book, and every mp3 player wants to be an iPod

maybe you'll get it eventually but Apple is basically driving the market

I've never seriously used an iMac so I can't say for sure but the iPhone has definitely set the bar for cell phone technology. Palm, HTC, Motorola, Samsung and various other companies have been focusing all their efforts on countering the iPhone since its launch.

the only comparison meant by those, of course, is aesthetic

apple started shooting for laptops aimed at the college student (in my opinion anyway) and they made them very sturdy and made of metal but also very light and extremely thin. they also made the GUI of their OS extremely polished

since those started coming out a few years back every laptop, imo, is trying to become smaller and sleeker yet still have some sort of appeal. but none of them still put as much meticulous work into their design as Apple does imo. they're just so clean and minimal. i looked at my friend's Acer laptop and it looked like mothership zeta waiting on the landing pad because it had so many goddamn lights of varying colors flashing all ove rit constantly indicating nothing you really need to know

i'm just totally in love with their design team. it's so rock-solid. it's what i would try to do if i were in that industry. on that show i was watching they kinda went through the history of their products and all of their external design is based directly on the hardware inside it. the original iMac was designed around its monitor's projection tube. now that we're in the LCD age, the iMac is flat. etc etc

Definitely. These little gadgets are exactly what apple is best at. Even their computers are really like gadgets that kind of do stuff that PCs do but not as well. At the current price I'm actually tempted to get an iPad even though I have absolutely no use for aside from playing with a new toy. Now they’ll be setting the standard for a market that nobody really was asking for.

Apple has focused on their demographic which has large amounts of disposable income and helped shape that demographic to continue to purchase their products; it is a good marketing strategy.

Not sure the income is disposable. They'd just rather buy the newest apple shit than save up for a downpayment on a house. I work in a marketing company and I am surrounded by apple people. 90% of them are between 20-30, have trendy hair cuts, trendy clothes and live with their parents.

Hey but they all have new powerbooks so they can watch indy films on the train on the way to work.

And they all walk around with the earbuds in their ears at the office and wonder why they only make 26k a year.

that's a good point, and to be candid, i have to ask myself from time to time whether i hate apple because it's apple or because i actually dislike their products. so far i can honestly say i am still on the "actually disliking their products" side of the fence, though i will admit to leaning over it from time to time. a brief list: quicktime sucks rapestain, i am neutral on their OS, itunes aggravates me, and ipods just seem awkward. above all i hate their advertising; its smugness level outflanks even the luke wilson AT&T commercials

and for the record, i also think most windows laptops look QUITE silly. i happen to be in love with my vaio though-- sleek, classy design, no garish holographic paintjobs or ostentatious "features," just the traditional spartan aesthetic sony's always presented (plus it's got a frickin hemi under the hood, rawr)

I just can't stand most apple software. I really hate the way they want to force you into doing things a certain way.

I really dislike their laptops the design is just fugly and that keyboard is terrible. Handheld tho are very nice. Elegant almost.

The only apple product I own is a three year old iPod that still works perfectly. I use a HP laptop that was on sale at Costco that works perfectly fine for school and even can 2-box Everquest on high settings. And I have the cheapest phone available from Verizon because it seems it is a social faux pas to not be immediately at everyone's beckon call.

In conclusion, people waste way too much money on apple's retarded products.

I am actually a fan of OSX. Its more stable then windows and tends to simply run better. Say what you want about the people who do or don't like them Steve Jobs is a genius. I will admit though, I hate their advertising. Macs tend to be more expensive, however by controlling the hardware as well as the software, you are assured the hardware can run the OS.

In regard to the ipad itself, it had potential, but the decision to leave out flash was a bad idea. Far to many things are now running on flash for it to be ignored.
