soooo, i got hit with a cold over the weekend and have been trying desperately to rid myself of it before tomorrow, when i'm supposed to have my second leg surgery. i have been largely successful--no more fever, no more sore throat, snot production slowing down--but my stupid ears are plugged. i would feel probably 200% better physically and mentally if i could just unplug them. any suggestions?

Find something to suck on. I'm sure your man would have a suggestion.

If your ears are plugged, it's probably due to sinus pressure locking fluid in your eustachian tubes. If you haven't been using one, take a couple decongestants to help loosen it up. You can also go the natural route of mentholated steam bath and breathe it in deep.
Be careful when you blow your nose so you don't end up with an ear infection to boot.
Feel better girly and I hope all goes well with the surgery.
