I dont know how many of you will find this interesting, but I figured id post it anyway.

I was at a mine this morning and MSHA has a guy that is going around to mines with this little contraption trying to raise awareness of how explosive methane and coal dust can be. Theyre doing all kinds of this stuff lately trying to get people to be more cautious. But anyway, I happened to be there when he came so I watched and taped it.

The guy fills the tank thing to just 5% methane and puts in one (1) TEASPOON of coal dust, then ignites it. When I posted here after the UBB explosion, I just couldnt put to words how harsh a blast like that would have been, but this might help now. If this ignites like this outside, with just 5% methane and one TEASpoon of dust, try to picture what it would have been like underground with three times as much gas and god only knows how many thousands times more dust in an enclosed area.

Oh, and watch the guy on the left. They call him Chachi and hes a fucking idiot. He shit his self I think

id say 25 or 30 feet up in the air. Almost singed some treetops above it lol. But thats just a little teaspoon of dust and 5% methane. When they pulled the first rescue team out right after the blow it was like 18%, so its hard to tell what it was when it blew up. And picture that shit underground, flashing through every single bit of air down there. I dont even think it IS possible to imagine it.

One of the guys that died was a really good buddy of mine and we were at his grandparents house on Smith Mountain Lake the weekend of the 4th. He got his girlfriend pregnant or whatever a few months before he died and then they broke up. Well, now they are looking at a settlement from Massey of millions and millions, and theyll never be able to touch it more than likely because that little twat got herself a lawyer the DAY he died and has it all tied up. His family is pretty much fucked. His grandparents are all he had left, and they said theyll more than likely die before they ever see any of it. I dont understand how all that legal bullshit works, but thats what they say. Fucking women, leeches of society (no offense teehee). Ive known the bitch since high school and the little bitch got a decent settlement, like 100,000 i hear, from her last divorce and she snorted it up her nose in less than a year.

Pretty amazing display. I definitely wasnt expecting THAT when that guy was explaining it. I just happened to be there looking at some equipment I am going to rebuild for them and he rolled in. Nice to know they are at least 'trying' to make people more aware. These past month or two theyve been going apeshit on mines with violations, like they should have to start with. Companies are having to drop many more millions into redoing a lot of stuff, which they should have done to begin with. The EPA is starting to be a huge fucking pain though at the moment holding up permits and shit. Theyve even revoked permits that had already been submitted. Companies with tens of millions invested in the process just having their shit cut off? Thats bullshit. All this shit happening with the oil industry and they are worried about coal? Rofl, let them drill in barren middle of bumfuck nowhere Alaska and maybe they wouldnt have to drill in the gulf and this would have been prevented. Or maybe im an idiot and am looking at it wrong.

Yah, that part you're looking at wrong. There's still shitloads of wildlife up there in Alaska, you know. From Caribou to Polar Bears to all the smaller animals, like fox and so on.

Now, look at how big a problem they've had trying to keep oil from getting places, to clean things up, and even to deal with the problem on this current oil well disaster. Now remember that this is in one of the most settled seas around, with fuckloads of boats and resources available to throw at the problem. Now imagine a spill just as large, but it's up in nowhereville Alaska. WTF resources do they have to even slow it down up there, much less correct things? Especially compared to how many boats and other things they have available in the Gulf? The same size spill would be orders of magnitude worse if it was in Alaska. Just less people immediately impacted, though the entire area would be impacted far worse and for far longer.

I prefer the sawdust cannons personally.

Pretty much every dust-like material that can become suspended in the air will create a similar explosion.

sorry arlos, I have to disagree. If i had to choose between a oil disaster in the Gulf or in Alaska, hands down it would be 99% frozen unpopulated wasteland that the oil couldnt reach 1% beautiful cruise picture postcard place over the water that can touch god only knows how much shoreline and shit. Caribou and fox? How many millions or billions of species of life is in the Gulf? Dont get me wrong, this gulf BS is a disaster that should have never happened and its sad that it has, and so would be one in Alaska for that matter, but hell, I bet for every like 1 mile of beautiful wildlife teeming area in Alaska theres thousands that are uninhabitable snow, ice, and polar bears. /shrug correct me if im wrong

Nope jut filmin. That guy on the left who shit hisself is chachi, who happens to be the worst electrician i know, and the guy doin the dem is named tom something. Axtually its kinda cool, tom is one of the hands down smartest men ive ever met. Some mining engineering masters. He was on the first rescue teams into sago, then big branch. He was tellin me when they went in for the recovery, almost all the bodies they found were nothing but bones, the skim , muscle, and all seared completely from the bone. One group of them was eatting on break and they were still sittin how they were when they died, just a flash flame went through. Pretty crazy

And im not going into alaska anymore. Fuck your wildlife, i would have to say there millions more speciea of life in the gulf than in alaska. :2m16: your polar bears anyway, itd look better on my wall, stuffed
