Is this guy preying on the gullible?

Or is he really on to something? Thoughts?

http://www.2012-survival-guide.com/index2.php?vsa=y

I do think there are going to be increased natural disasters, and I believe they will be more intense than what we've seen lately. But how far should we really go to prepare? It is interesting that many past cultures (not just the Mayans) have all predicted something terrible happening to the earth in 2012. And God only knows what the lunatic Ahmadinejad has up his sleeve on top of all that. Is anybody here taking any of this seriously, or do you just have the attitude that it'll all blow over easily and relatively uneventful like Y2K? Would it be unreasonable or fanatical to start stocking up on a few emergency items like: Water purification tablets, vegetable seeds, pre-made vacuum-packed meals (that have a 10-20 year shelf life), topographical maps, compass, hand-crank radios, batteries, candles, waterproof matches, emergency blankets, etc. etc. etc... ?

I've actually read a couple books on 2012 (but not the survival guide link I posted), and my thoughts on it are that something bad IS coming. I'm not sure exactly yet on how far I'm willing to go, or how much money I'm willing to spend preparing for it to ensure my family's survival. :mystery:

If this was anyone else I'd say this was a joke post, but with you...I just don't know.

Why? I'm not joking. So you think the whole 2012 thing is a hoax? Set aside our political and religious differences... this has nothing to do with that anyway.

who cares. if it really happens then you'll be prepared and we'll be dead. if it doesn't we can keep laughing at your baby-like sensibilities which is a lot more fun than living in fear imo

What baby-like sensibilities? Splain yourself. Oh never mind. I knew it was just a matter of time before some sarcastic asshole came in to shit-up the thread. Some things never change.

i bet the guy writing the calendar got bored since he wrote it ~1000 years into the future. probably said screw it, let somebody else add on later

i don't even buy next year's calendar til december so who cares that their calendar stopped randomly over 1,000 years after their whole civilisation collapsed

it's just more conspiracy theory douchebaggery. and yes, you are a baby

I'm a huge opponent of conspiracy theories, especially the camp that thinks Bush was behind the 911 bombing, and the morons who say we didn't really land on the moon. The whole 2012 thing just isn't on par with that, imo.

I don't think barry is a U.S. born citizen, otherwise he would've posted his birth certificate to satisfy the "birthers." But, the U.S. Supreme Court sealed his records, so I guess we'll never really know. I'm not fanatical about it though. I haven't even thought about it in a long time. Not to derail the thread or anything, but barry is the worst president in U.S. history, and subsequently the worse commander-in-chief to date. I'm counting the days til we're rid of this incredible douche bag. I thank God he's only a one-term president.

To be honest, I think 2012 will be as big a disaster impact as Y2K was.

That said, having at least SOME of the disaster kit you mentioned is never a bad idea, as you can use it in case of Earthquake, or other major natural disaster. Well, OK, not the seeds so much, but blankets, hand-cranked radio/flashlight/etc, bottled water, meals, and so on are all useful to have around.

Now, if you REALLY want to worry about something, worry about the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse...

what arlos said plus another caveat

Considering the Mayan calendar is based upon an astrological event (it is the dawning of the age of aquarius). All it means is from our perspective in the universe the earth is in alignment with the center of the galaxy. Plus the mayans believed that we were entering another 12 thousand year calender cycle, not that the whole shebang was coming to and end. seriously what do you do every 12 months? buy another wall calender and put it on the wall. This is the same thing but only once every 12 thousand years

this is a non event like y2k

You mean this birth certificate?
and before you start your whgbrl about it being fake, mine looks EXACTLY like this. only the state and similar descriptors are different. add to this the fact, not one but TWO newspapers have announcements of his birth and you have some pretty conclusive proof that president obama was born in america.

Not so much. The whole thing about barry not being born in America is not really a conspiracy theory, just a disputable theory based on reasonable suspicion. I believe in "disputable theories" unless they are just so retarded and far-fetched, like Bush knowing about 911 before it happened, and that we never landed on the moon, etc.

Speaking of Y2k,

True story - In 1999 each and every VP and board member of China Airlines gave reports to the Chairman and CEO of the company that they could not get Y2k compliant before the new year because Europe and the United States hired all the "good" code writers. The Chairman, after listening to all the reports and taking into consideration the impact of what it could do to the company if planes started falling out of the air on 1/1/2000 12:01 am, decided to book flights for each and every VP, engineer, and board member on New Years Eve and told them they'll be in the air when during the New Year. I'm betting that was enough motivation to finish their work...

There's no contradiction or irony there, so I'm not sure about your lolling... :dunno:

Anyway, what's your take on 2012, Gyps?

ohh you're still doing fantasy bball? you know, if you're worried about low turnout facebook is a magical tool =P i'll see if he wants to do it this year.

I'm bitter at basketball right now--just went to look for tickets to a Magic game or two on Friday and the new arena has caused even upper level tickets to go up over $150 apiece. Lower level behind the basket seats were like $340. Ridiculous =(
