PS2 is much better than a gamecube. X-Cube=Gamecube, Ganz?
I'd go Xbox over either, personally.
Halo2 man...Doom3 will be on the Xbox, too

I'd suggest Xbox. Better performance, and Halo2/Doom3.
PS2 has a lot of games, but Xbox is a more powerful system, and you have the mod options

I'd go with a Gamecast, Ganzo.

Aside from Halo I can't really think of any X-Box games. I thought Halo sucked to btw.

I've owned both and my preference lies with PS2. Halo was the only game I enjoyed on Xbox. There are tons of games that I love for PS2. Either way isn't it about that time to just hold up and wait for the next greatest thing?

Most new games release for all 3 platforms. Having one of them is a good idea. I own a PS2 and Xbox, and I honestly never use my PS2.
The only time I even plugged in my PS2 this year was when I bought Champs of Norrath.
Doom3 on Xbox. Halo2 on Xbox. Vanguard on Xbox.

It wins for me.

X-Box is best. Mod it, slap a 200GB HD in it and you can store like 100 games on the drive.

The only reason to get a PS2 USED to be Grand-Theft-Auto... but... the X-Box version owns it.
Go with an X-Box. The games are basically the same. Nintendo can still use the 'we have the best games' argument, but the PS2 and X-Box are very much the same. The deciding factor should be the graphics and features on the X-Box... which easily wins in that bit.
PS2

i have a PS2 and i have a special that i got from Best Buy that lets me bring my PS2 back to the store and exchange it towards a PS3(when it comes out)for the full price of $179.99(the price i payed for it). This deal cost me about 30 dollaz extra but i think it is worth it as PS2 is depreciating in value. As everyone said up top, Xbox is a more powerful system with great mods. PS2 has a lot more games that are RPGs and lots of Japanese titles are stearing clear of the Xbox, Xbox has a few games that will not be on PS2 like Halo and Doom3.

I prefer ps2 for the library. (There's still some cool ps1 games!) One thing I was wondering, though: Is ps3 coming out this year and do ps2 drives really suffer damage if you watch DVDs in them like so many people have told me?
Sorry, not trying to hijack, just trying to gain some info which might help you make your decision. =)

Ganzo: I'd say it ultimately depends on the types of game genres you enjoy. If Japanese RPGs, platformers and racing (GT series) are your thing, than a PS2 would be the logical choice. The Xbox is technologically better, and is better geared towards FPS, sports and action titles. In addition, Xbox Live is a great online service. One thing to note: alot of the top rated titles for Xbox are also available for the PC assuming you have decent hardware.

fusion frenzy is so fun. it's like a brand new game but all you have to do is press two buttons. it's like a nice-looking regular nintendo game. like when you run up the screw all you do is duck and jump and beat the high score. i miss old games like that

I do as well.
It seems the more complex some games become, the less 'soul' they have.
Although hopefully Doom3 will renew my faith in gamedom for a little while, at least.
