after struggling to enjoy Rift (and subsequently quitting) I'm looking for some good multiplayer games to mess around with

don't care if it's PC or console really

it's for me and the GF, but being able to include other friends and relatives is cool too

I'm good with almost anything, she's a bit of a gaming nerd too

we've been playing Left 4 Dead, but it gets old pretty quick

quirky games that we can pwn each other and and talk trash at each other are probably the best

Sacred 2 has somewhat awkward controls at first and the skill tree is a bit overwhelming but is a blast in co-op.

The XBox Live Arcade has dozens of great multi player games. My GF and I love the Pinball game. Pinball Extreme I think? I think it might be on PS3 as well.

Why isn't Rift fun? I thought it was supposed to be the most amazing gaming experience ever?

Marvel Vs Capcom 3, or just put the games away and have sex =P

I put so many hours into Sacred 2, but really it's not that great a game, and co-op on console is pretty usless unless you have a headset.

Me and my brother put some serious hours into Sacred 2 coop. It's like Diablo on crack.

the lore seems non-existant

It's hard to explain I think. I don't have any real complaints about the game at all

it ran fine, no major glitches

the classes were semi interesting

the mobs were a bit bleh, dungeons were fairly straight forward


it just didn't hook us

been doin a lot of xbox arcade games

gatling gears and lode runner are both a lot of fun co-op

and castlevania harmony of despair is amazing imo but you can't do local co-op on that one, just xbl

Rift is engineered to be better than WOW. it's prettier, has streamlined content, and an easy to use soul system that allows many different builds.

The problem is the slick fast food setup while improving on many parts lacks soul, lore, and a lot of the things that make WOW <and EQ> what they were.

It has great design, but there's also not much game there. The endgame has things to do, but they are all rote, boring, and the same stuff we've done in previous MMOs which brings the newness factor to zero.

If I had to descibe Rift, it'd be: A smaller, better WOW with a few EQ2 hooks but very few new things. It's the best MMO on the market. However, it's also nothing revolutionary, or nothing really new for vet players.

As for multiplayer...

The co-op in Portal 2 is an absolute blast.

I assume they are sitting in the same room.

I've played the co op campaign quite a bit with my girl and my son and yeah, it's not an amazing game but there's something about it that's very satisfying.

The "open world" mini MMO part of it is pretty brilliant for a console game.

Plus it's like $15 used.

for giggles I hauled out my PSPs, re-hacked them and have been checking out some of the more recent games

I'd kind of forgotten how decent the PSP was, semi tempted to see if I can't pick up a couple psp go's to replace the clunkier psp 2000's

plugging castlevania HD again. everybody that likes classic side-scrollers should play it imo....

I'm playing Disgaea on PSP right now. It's crazy addictive.
