Is coming out in September. No, not EQ, h8ers....
I have no idea how Myst sold a billion copies, and it'll be one of the great mysteries of the Universe. That said, Myst 4 is out soon.

at the time it was released it was the most graphically impressive game available. plus it was the first real use that people had for those CD drives they had on their puters

It was released in 1993. I played it when it was released, but it was at the time of Doom and other games that blew it away. Heck, Shadows of Yserbius was even out, which was one of the early MMORPGs.
I thought it was ass then. Some of my C 64 and Apple IIe games blew it away, and they were 5+ years older, on archaic systems 100 times less power.

ya i never got why anyone played myst. i had my pirated copies of doom, descent, and rise of the triad.
sometimes i miss my 486, there were plenty of games on it that were more fun than 2/3 of the bug-ridden shit pushed out the door today

i just agreed with the fact that it was audiovisually lightyears ahead of everything else out there
i did enjoy it but all we had was a mac so it's not like there was much other stuff i could play

Because anyone with any taste in video-games didnt like it, or "understand" it.
Not lack of intelligence or anything of the like. Just that it sucked so horridly that you didnt want to think about it.
Those types of games fucking suck. UNLESS, it's a comedy. Like some game I had with a lizard in it. Was cartoonish... I cant remember its name ><

Curse of Monkey Island was good, The Longest Journey was good.
