Be afraid, VERY afraid

http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed- ... s-demands/ If this is a joke, then they fail at humor. If this is just a rogue faction proposing this RETARDED nonsense, then I'm not worried at all because they wont gain any momentum, but if this is really the official mainstream OWS demands, then it is time to shut down every occupy (insert city here) movement in America because this is a nightmare that basically would result in the destruction of the United States. 90+% of those demands are pure communism.

It's so mind-bogglingly stupid... It HAS to be a joke.

There's only a couple concepts that make sense.

Yeah, even as the resident raving liberal, there's not more than a couple of those I think are even remotely reasonable. The rest are way the fuck out there in loony-land.

The one that had me laughing the hardest was "Ban the private ownership of land." I mean, what the fuck kind of nonsense is THAT?

I thought the one about banning guns was funny. I also liked the min wage one. Seriously those are some whack ideas.

If min. wage was 18 bucks an hour, then a loaf of bread will be 50 bucks, a gal. of milk would be 30 bucks, a dozen eggs would be 40 bucks, etc etc etc. Very whack.

I'm wondering why official OWS reps didn't come out and say "Hey that was just a moron trying to stir shit." This statement is on the OWS official website.

Yeah, but wasn't it in the forums, not on the front page? Everyone knows you can't take forum posts as anything.

They don't post an official disclaimer because there's no point. They cover it with their blanket statement about posts in the forums are not official positions, etc.

I still think that the "higher ups" in the OWS movement would have either edited or removed that post had they disapproved. /shrug

I don't think it's a serious post; I almost think it's someone who opposes OWS.

I still think that the "higher ups" in the OWS movement would have either edited or removed that post had they disapproved. /shrug

Thats kind an underlying point though, Erik--it's a direct democracy supporting equal voices from everyone. There's not going to be a "higher up" telling someone they aren't allowed to speak or that they aren't entitled to their opinions. They disclose that the individual doesn't represent the movement and that it's not an official statement and that's sufficient enough. You're always going to get a handful of crazies in any big group of people regardless of what it is.

That and it's a FORUM. If you're trying to spur open exchanges of ideas and opinions, you very definitely do NOT want to delete and remove posts that you may disagree with. Same reasons I don't, for example, go around deleting or editing posts of yours that I disagree with. I mean, as far as NT is concerned, I'm a "higher up," right?

No, I don't think the real OWS people had anything to do with that post, any more than I have anything to do with yours or you with mine.

to be fair, here's my take:

Repeal the Taft-Hartley Act. Unionize ALL workers immediately. don't care much for taft-hartley, but workers shouldn't be forced into unions either

Raise the minimum wage immediately to $18/hr. Create a maximum wage of $90/hr to eliminate inequality. these numbers are jank but i do think min wage needs to go up

Institute a 6 hour workday, and 6 weeks of paid vacation. 8hrs is fine. 6 weeks is silly, but 3 is reasonable

Institute a moratorium on all foreclosures and layoffs immediately. too broad, but i do think it's bullshit that a company can lay off a hundred workers and give its exec a half mil christmas bonus

Repeal racist and xenophobic English-only laws. lol

Open the borders to all immigrants, legal or illegal. Offer immediate, unconditional amnesty, to all undocumented residents of the US. naturalization process is jank, but this is too much

Create a single-payer, universal health care system. dig it. no nation with a GDP like ours should allow its citizens to die or suffer unnecessarily

Pass stricter campaign finance reform laws. Ban all private donations. All campaigns will receive equal funding, provided by the taxpayers. OH MY GOD THIS WILL FIX SO MANY PROBLEMS, I'D THROW AWAY EVERYTHING ELSE ON THIS LIST FOR IRONCLAD CORRUPTION-PROOF CAMPAIGNS, HOLY FUCK

Institute a negative income tax, and tax the very rich at rates up to 90%. 90%? heh. try 50%.

Pass far stricter environmental protection and animal rights laws. remove the word "far" and i'm on board

Allow workers to elect their supervisors. this is actually pretty intriguing, gonna think about it some more before commenting

Lower the retirement age to 55. Increase Social Security benefits. i'd go 60. SSI still goes up though.

Create a 5% annual wealth tax for the very rich. not very clear. how rich is "very rich"? and 5% tax on what, their net worth?

Ban the private ownership of land. lol

Make homeschooling illegal. Religious fanatics use it to feed their children propaganda. while that may be true, banning homeschooling is a bit silly. maybe test what's being learned somehow?

Reduce the age of majority to 16. wrong. 16-year-olds are biologically not mature enough to make adult decisions

Abolish the death penalty and life in prison. We call for the immediate release of all death row inmates from death row and transferred to regular prisons. death penalty has to go, it's archaic and barbaric. life imprisonment can stay.

Release all political prisoners immediately. uhh definition? come on guy

Immediate withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. dig it

Abolish the debt limit. orrrrrrrr tax the rich at mid-90s levels and debt will start shrinking

Ban private gun ownership. what? lol

Strengthen the separation of church and state. yes please

Immediate debt forgiveness for all. like almost everything else, too hamfisted. how about audit everyone's debt and determine how much of it was due to predatory financial practices?

End the 'War on Drugs'. semi-dig it. we've been over this a billion times, but again: legalize weed, fuck the rest of that shit

Yeah, Gyps, Arlos, Tossica, and everybody else who posted disapproval of these demands are all cheerleaders and water carriers for the GOP? MMMMMKKKKK. And your comments about home schooling is 100% wrong. Many people home-school their children because of the fucking leftist propaganda kids are fed in the public screwel system. If I were the National Superintendent of Schools, I would implement a mandatory questionnaire to all teacher applicants. ANY hint of socialistic/communist views would be cause for immediate shredding of that applicant's resume.

The one I thought was funny was the one about the employees electing their supervisors. Suuuuuure. Or maybe I think its funny because Im on the management side of things, but still, I think its hilarious idea

Ending the war on drugs and elimination of the death penalty are two of the main points that make clear sense and can be done with ease.

War on drugs should be repealed from a moral perspective, with a secondary economic benefit.

Death penalty abolition (except in extreme cases, e.g., Osama bin Laden types) because it's not effective as a deterrent as Beccaria proved a long time ago. This would have to be tied to a complete overhaul of the prison system so that violent criminals have no amenities and have a long hard life of hard labor in harsh conditions (e.g., Alaska).

The issues I agree with have nothing to do with economic inequality.

Funny things happening in Occupy Ottawa. A lot of stories of theft from the collection plates. These losers do exactly what they are protesting against the first chance they get.

Note: Obviously this isn’t the case everywhere, just thought it was funny.

. But remember Zan, that was only a "rogue faction within the movement.". Anyway, just ignore them. Don't give them the attention they want. Don't let em get to you. They will go away eventually.

did i not clearly delineate that most of the ideas were way too extreme? and did i not accurately summarize your immediate flipout over something no one else ever took seriously?

uhh, which comments? is my comment "banning home schooling is a bit silly" 100% wrong? is my comment suggesting to "maybe test what's being learned somehow" 100% wrong? seriously man, you gotta put a liiiiiitle more thought into what you read sometimes.

besides, if the word "religious" was removed from the original item it would read "Fanatics use it to feed their children propaganda" - i think we would both agree on that, albeit from different directions

lol you should stop writing your own posts and just link directly to Glenn Beck clips, no point in having a middleman
