Seems like a really odd axe to grind in lieu of other current issues.

I'm sure the majority of people would much rather get time and a half or double time instead of the promise of future days off.

Time off at companies is one of my pet peeves as well. Like if you want to take off for Christmas week, even if you have 6 months of time off accrued, if you don't get your request in a year in advance, a lot of the times I've seen them straight up reject people. IMO if you have time off built up you should be able to use it 100% at your discretion. It's on the company to have backup plans in place to cover.

major issue is there is no guarantee in the bill that the days off would actually occur or that the employee would be paid for the hours worked if laid off before taking off the time off. so a seasonal worker would just be completely fucked over by this

I wish I could add more on this subject other than jesus christ. These people really dont work for us at all and it becomes more obvious everyday.

We got rid of the unions and now we are getting rid of everything they fought for.

I wouldn't take this option myself, because I get a lot of overtime, but I can see how this would be attractive to a lot of people.

There are already plenty of businesses that would rather not pay anyone overtime and let operations go to shit than actually pay people what they deserve to get shit done right. Not surprised this is happening

but wouldn't it then be cheaper for your employer to give all your overtime to another worker who opted for the comp time? what's the incentive to keep paying you crazy overtime if they can get some other shmuck to take the comp option? just a thought.

Big deal, I've been salary for more than 10 years, and before then I was commission based so I have not seen any overtime possibly since high school age. I've also worked 45-60 hours for most of that time. Hell when I was production shift manager, people who were on assembly lines were making more than me per hour because we both were there for 65 hours but they did make overtime for a mindless robot job a monkey can do, while I was dealing with schedules, troubleshooting, putting out fires and babysitting their petty arguments.

Cry me a river about overtime pay, it's nothing but a burden on both, the employer and the employee.

i've been salaried for all 7+ of my years in the professional workplace and i still care about hourly workers' overtime rights...

especially my husband's. it's super awesome when he gets paid time and a half.

if you work 65 hours a week for a yearly salary of $75,000 then guess what, you're only making $22/hr before taxes, or maybe closer to $15/hr after taxes depending on your state

I'm not really seeing the treacherous slope that this is being characterized as.

Comp time vs. overtime pay is pretty much six-in-one, half-a-dozen-in-the-other for me -- I've no issue with taking what are essentially paid vacation days in lieu of overtime pay, because I WILL use the days.

Options are almost always a good thing -- if it turns out not to be the case, change the law after the fact.

And last I checked, employers always had the final say on an employee's request to use time, at least everywhere I've ever worked.

Problem with vacation days is that they expire and typically have a bunch of stipulation surrounding their use. It's not equal.

Where I work we have the option in that we can chose to take vacation time or we can choose not to be approved for our overtime.

Unless it's not optional. Especially in right to work states, companies don't have to give any reason for firing you. So they can bring extreme pressure to bear on employees to take the vacation option, and fire you if you don't. Not OFFICIALLY, of course, but....
