I love the line, who is black. Pretty much all I need to know about the story, Doubt its real.

that being said, i did laugh at the "who is black" line in the article. first of all, plenty of white kids play this stupid (and dangerous) game, so no way it's just a black thing. more importantly if you spend more than five seconds thinking about it, you'll reach the conclusion that EVEN IF YOU AREN'T trying to suggest a connection between being black and playing the knockout game, the way you present the story can make it SOUND that way. that's fuckin journalism 101 - if you're gonna mention a detail like that, you have to explain why it's relevant to the events of the story, otherwise people will draw their own conclusions. in the case of harrison, it means this is specifically a "lowlife piece of shit black people" problem. in the case of me, it's that the author's either racist himself/herself or is trying to appeal to racists

EDIT: oh that explains a lot, it's a fucking breitbart article. that site is like the daily kos of the right, and i'd say the odds are pretty good they know EXACTLY what the phrase "who is black" will imply to the types of bigots known to read their shit, as we can plainly see

I'm amazed this shit migrated to US now. This game has been around Eastern Europe for over 10 years now. Russia passed a law two years ago making it into a separate crime from regular assault, with a much harsher penalty just to try and combat its popularity

I hear the knockout game first appeared here in the states.

Back in 1870, it was an early trend in places like Kansas City, Dodge City, and some of those old cowtowns.

It kind of dwindled though, because too many potential knockout victims went heeled, and alarming numbers of would-be 'knockouters' got shot to death trying to earn a point.

Which kind of makes sense, actually. You spend all day bustin' broncs or herdin' cattle, you ain't apt to put up with much foolishness in town.
