Madiba down :(

Nelson Mandela wrote:“I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can only rest for a moment, for with freedom come responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not ended.”
RIP

I really hate the internet today and yesterday. I'm all for a well timed or well crafted joke, but if I see one more RIP Mandela post that is followed up with "lol you were great in shawshank" or "rip paul walker, what was this guy in" I'm just going to sink back into my hole of complete misanthropy.
One of my friends, in true "too soon" fashion, posted "Nelson Mandela is now one of the dearly departheid." Too soon? Probably, but at least it was fucking witty. Honestly.

It's fake. I just thought it was hilarious. There's a Kanye one too that says "Nelson Mandela was a true great. I can relate because I'm like the Nelson Mandela of hip hop.

sometimes freeing one's race from subjugation and oppression requires blowing things up

Actually it was because of tribal warfare. He was a prince of one of the largest tribes who wanted to take over as a supreme ruler and started a tribal war, when that fell apart he did a flip and became a communist supported by USSR and tried to do a "peoples revolution" with him at the head naturally. Only much later while he was in jail and became a person of infatuation for rockstars he once again changed his political leaning and became a "democratic freedom fighter". Of course it was all BS as his tribal aspirations came back once he came to power and allowed his tribe to dominate the country. You should read about an angel his wife is to her own people.
But hey, your story sounds cooler

what's the exchange rate then, captain judgey? is there no amount of good a man can do to sufficiently outweigh his past evils?
besides, he was never charged with murder, and whenever possible his group's sabotage efforts took place at night when buildings were empty to avoid casualties
the real question here seems to be whether evils committed against the forces of violently oppressive racial or ethnic subjugation can still be considered evil

How about the American Revolution? That was a group throwing off the yoke of oppressors who had all the power, and was far from nonviolent.

You forgot to mention Spartacus, Gannicus, and Crixus in the Third Servile War during the Roman Empire era. That surely was far from nonviolent with tons of homosexual sex!!
