Help please

Couple of weeks ago my computer started lagging for 15 secs every 10 mins, couple of weeks ago it got annoying and got around to attempting to fix it today. Found 1 virus and a couple of spyware programs on my system and it looked like they were the problem. But after taking them all off my system is even worse lagging for 15 sec every 2-3 mins and it is making the game upplayable.
I have a P3 850, 512ram geforce4 that I will be upgrading but not for a while.
Has anyone got any ideas ?

Do you mean the whole system is lagging or just EQ?
If it's just EQ, there might not be anything wrong, other than EQs crappy programming.
Download Ad-aware, and Spybot S+D. use them both in safe mode.
Also while in safe mode, gank everything related to gator and xupiter off.
Run a good virus scan like Norton antivirus also while in safe mode. (there are tons of others but I personally prefer norton.)
What OS do you have?
Hit control+alt+delete and see what all is running. Maybe there's some garbage running bogging you down. Take note of the ones you don't recognize and research them. If it's crap, kill them.
On winxp, I have found using start, run, and typing services.msc and using it to disable programs helps too.
Hope this helps. I'm no expert but these things have helped me in the past.

Disable anti-virus while playing (at least the feature that scans packets).

the only way to fix it is to reformat the whole drive and put norton 2005 on it that should help with your viruses
