I found out a guy that I work with plays this game and loves it. I'm thinking of giving it a try, any comments?

Which one? There are about 15 Final Fantasy titles floating around out there.
Do you mean the online version, FF XI?
If so, I think most people here will tell you that game is crap. Forced grouping and mindless xp-grinding isn't an experience most EQ vets care to repeat voluntarily, no matter how pretty the scenery (that was my take, anyway. I payed attention to what they were saying on D's last board, and saved myself the bother of not picking it up).

It's fun for all of a few weeks, and then the zombie-like grinding REQUIRING a group to kill almost anything gets old.
The game looks amazing though, and is fun for those few weeks lol
If you can get lucky and get on a server with more americans youll be better off too, the japanese are elitist pricks who can barely speak english.

I tried to explain this to her, I think she just wants to try it out *shrug*.

I havn't been interested enough to actually look, but maybe there are free trials available out there somewhere?
I tried the 14-day free trial of SW:G when my boredom this summer had about peaked. That pig took somewhere around 3 hours to download and install, and I only ended up playing it for about 30 minutes before I quit in disgust and deleted it.

IF there were actual quests to do constantly (like WoW) and not such a dependency on grouping and more diverse monsters I'd probably still be playing.

That game had such potential, it saddens me it was lacking just a few things that would have made it awesome.

Yup. That was one of my biggest complaints about that game. It's very linear, you pretty much have to go through each area to level up and each time you go to a "new" area it's the same monsters as the previous area but with new names. Very lame indeed. :/

I have friends who swear by this game. I have never tried it as the Anime look doesnt appeal to me. Wont hurt just to try it, but it is a grouping game.
Just wait for Wow silv!

The classes and their abilities are better than any other game IMO. I also like they way they have it so you character can be any class whenever it wants to be. Here's the thing that sucks about the game: level 1-5 kill young hares, levels 6-10 kill hares, level 11-15 kill sand hares, level 16-20 kill mature hares, level 21-25 kill elder hares, level 21-25 kill super elite elder hares...you get the point

(FFX 11)Its was fun at beginning, but around lev 45+ my dragoon was not asked often in group. Some class don't add alot to the group, so you always ignore if you don't have a permanent group. I bring it to lev 53 or 54, after i was to tired to continue grinding and waiting for group. Still a nice game if you don't exp very fast.

I had a blast for about the first month I played. After that I got tired of killing the same mobs over and over. Plus I never could manage to get the damn sub class quest finished.
