the storyline behind the game? I don't understand what is going on in HL2 from a story perspective.

It's lame.

If it's an older FPS you want - go get Quake II - install Gamespy - down load some of the mods and newer maps and go to work.

HL sucks.

It's about aliens and shit from space and its really gay... like Taxx gay...

alright quick breakdown.

You're in a science facility that opens a fucked up gate to another dimension, and aliens pour into the facility. Your job is to get out.

You start moving up and kicking ass, then BOOM you meet the soldiers that are coming down from the top to kill anything that's moving, including you. SO you fuck up aliens, you fuck up soldiers, and if you're anything like me you fuck up scientists too.

Then you get to the end and there's a crazy dude in a suit look all GQ and you find out you work for him, and he gives you the option to work for him again or die. Game over.

It's my understanding that number 2 starts where number 1 left off, but I'm not really sure.

For the average 16 year old raised up on Quake III and UT, then HL is not all that great. For the old schoolers that remember playing HL on our dual Voodoo's witnessing a FPS with an actual story and decent graphics for the first time, it was a godsend. Half Life has always been hailed as one the greatest PC games of all time, and I totally agree with the assumption. You just have to remember the state of PC games at the time of release.

Yeah, its too bad that it sucked.

HalfLife Single player is the best Single Player game ever released in the FPS genre. I've played every Quake game through, all 3 Dooms, even Wolf3D, and a multitude of others (RISE OF THE TRIAD KICKS ASS!) and HalfLife is by far superior to all of them.
