Pedro to the Mets

Good / Bad, oppinions ?
I think it is a good thing for the mets, I think until the all star break they were one of the most dominate rotations with a horrid defense and offense. If they start hitting like they did around the end of the season it could lead to a nice playoff run for them.

Hasnt been finalized yet. The mets just have upped their offer to a gauranteed 4th year, something that Boston has been hesitant to offer. Pedro to any team is going to make them better, having a pitcher like that take the mound every 5th day is going to translate into 25+ wins (not wins for pedro, but team wins).
They still have some holes on offense and defense to fill as well before they would make a run at the playoffs however.

Surprising. I thought he was close to signing with the Sox again.
The Mets still will not win the pennant. Too many holes.
Good if you are an O's fan, Mop. But the O's still aren't in the top 2 of their division.

I'll be pissed if we lose Pedro.

Not really close to signing with the Red Sox. They offered a two year contract originally, Pedro wants a gauranteed 4 year. The Red Sox budged putting a 3 year contract on the table, then the Mets came in with a 4 year gauranteed.
Most likely the Mets will wind up signing Pedro, unless the red sox budge again. There are also some rumors around that has Manny going to the mets in a trade with Boston. If that happens, Pedro is almost gauranteed to sign.

If we lose both manny and pedro, I'll be more than just pissed.
I can understand them not wanting pedro THAT badly, although I disagree...
There's no reason to not lock down Manny.

The trade rumor right now with the Mets and Red Sox is Manny in a straight up deal for Mike Piazza. The Mets have been shopping piazza quietly at the winter meetings.
The Mets have also offered contracts to Richie Sexson, and Carlos Delgado. However Sexson and the mariners have come to a deal pending a physical monday morning. Delgado is also in the Mariners sights, they have offered him a contract close if not the same as what they offered Sexson. In the event that the Mariners sign both, Sexson would play left field/DH, and Delgado play first base/DH. Mariners also have Bucky Jacobson, a life time minor leaguer with power that came up last year, and did very well. Bucky plays DH/and 1b.
If the mariners sign both Delgado and Sexson, Sexson would be the every day left fielder, pushing Raul Ibanez into Center field or right depending if Ichiro would move to center, something he has been reluctant to do. The odd man out in this scenario is switch hitting Randy Wynn that had a great season last year with the mariners, in a season of dissapointments.
Mariners are currently in trade talks with the Mets (and possibly afew other clubs expressing interest in Wynn), for 2b/SS Kaz Matsui. If this trade goes through it would put Kaz at SS for the mariners, and move Jose Lopez over to third to split time with Scott Spezio. When Boone retires or parts way with the mariners Kaz would then move to 2B, and Lopez would take over at SS. The overall opinion is that Lopez will be a standout shortstop, after acouple years of "grooming".
Now the Mariners are also in negotiations with Edgar Renteria for shortstop, and Adrian Beltre at 3rd. Right now only 2 teams have offered Beltre a contract, the mariners being one of them. They are considered the front runners for Beltre at this time. However the Dodgers have come back into the thick of signing him, after failing to sign Cory Koskie. He has agreed to terms with the toronto blue jays (someone the mariners where interested in as well). Dodgers did sign jeff kent to play second already, but if they lose out on the Beltre sweepstakes, Kent would most likely play third for the dodgers.
That about sums up the major free agent happenings in baseball atm.

Fin....Boston Just signed David Wells to a 2 year 16 million dollar contract. With incentives it could be worth 18 million. Good guy to have on your pitching staff.
Other updates, looks like Pavano has all but signed with the yankees, as has Jaret Wright. However Wright may not have passed his physical.

It would be a major upgrade for the mets' pitching staff if they sign Martinez. Since they got craps for starting pitching, they wont contend for the playoff next year.

The Rumor is Seattle has as much as 60 million of "free money" to spend. They have said that their payroll will increase around 10 million this year. With the majority of the team under contract, the added money that they never spent from Sasaki last year (roughly 10 mill), didnt resign eddie guardo, and getting rid of Olerud's contract as well. They have some money to spend. They did already resign Dan wilson to a 1 year contract, so that did eat up alittle of that money.
They were also willing to sign Pavano as well, but he is going to the yankees. Delgado and Sexton will figure to make about 10 million a year if they accept (Sexon has agreed already). Beltre will command around 15 million a year. Seattle wont get all of them, that was just a GM wish list, of people that they are pursuing. I would not be surprised to see them sign three of those top free agents though. Sexon and Delgado almost look like a lock, with those 2 in place it will be much more attractive to free agents to sign with them.

Yes wells is awesome, but I'm a Pedro fan myself.
He was slacking for awhile late in the post season, but he pulled through in my opinion.

for the mets sake, i hope martinez attitude and shoulder hold up for the 4 years. Otherwise the new york crowds and media will lynch both martinez and minaya.
