problems with my new vid card

I have a Geforce 5700 video card from Christmas. I know, not the best, but we're not rich ><
Anyway.
My husband wiped my hard drive and reinstalled everything. When I try to get into EQ, I get past the character select screen and sometimes into the world depending on which character I'm on. Then I crash and get an error msg saying there was a problem with my vid card display. I reinstalled the drivers, that didn't help. I tried calling EQ tech support and that's a joke. I called during their hours and they still are saying they're unavailable.
Anyone ever exp'd this? If so how did you fix it?

Make sure you download the latest drivers from Nvidia.
Also, make sure you have the lastest version of DirectX installed.

I want a new video card... I hate spending over $300 on something I don't need though.

me too Mindia
ok so I did that and was able to play my bard on RZ just fine.. but when I go to switch to Hope on Nameless, I get the error. Maybe it has something to do with old world models and OoW? I'm getting pissed ><

Those new cards kind of suck. I went to Sam's Club and tried out this Nvidia 5700 XFX card with 256mb ram on the card. That piece of crap performed worse than my Ti4600 with 128mb of ram on it. I took it back and got my hundred bucks back. To get a decent card, you need spend about 300 bucks, unfortunately.

If it's only giving you the error on some of your characters, you might want to try deleting all of your ini files for those characters. They may have gotten corrupted.

ahh ok I will try that too. So I go into the EQ directory and delete all files containing Hopeful.. and then download the big patches for EQ again?
I don't know which file to delete? And my hubby won't help me.. he's not even paying attention to me as usual. He's on his computer and not really answering me ><

Drop your color depth down to 16bit for your desktop.

hm that's strange, i have a geforce fx 5700 ultra, and i haven't had one single performance problem since the day i installed it (which was in february 04)
the only problem with the card is that one of the bearings in the fan is going out, so i get some ugly noise sometimes. however, in a rare display of wisdom (or perhaps paranoia?) i chose the 5700U made by BFGtech because of its free 24/7 tech support and its lifetime warranty instead of the VisionTek 5700U that came with FarCry. i called the tech support line about the noise and they said it didn't require immediate replacement but it will go out eventually-- and that if i have a few days of downtime (yes he used this word lol) planned out i should mail it in and they'll have a new one out to me by the end of the week. all i pay is the cost of shipping MY card to THEM.
cliff's notes: my 5700U rules, and BFGtech is a pwnage company

Ok I dropped down to 16 bit like 10sun said to. It worked for a bit. I was camped in Ssra where I was camping my VoTS.. after I got it, I used my OT gate hammer to get out, and crashed upon zoning. I haven't tried anything since.

Tomorrow morning I will riddle it out when I have time.
I remember there was an issue with EQ & the color depth for whatever fucking reason.
I just forget the fix =(

Just uninstall EQ and come play WoW with us, it will be great fun!!!!
Delete any file that says Hopeful, and then rerun the patch

Pull up a search. In the box for Files and Folders Named put
*hopeful*.ini
Then delete all of those files. WARNING...you will have to redo all hotkeys and reset your windows after you do this. But that should fix it hun.

And also maybe any cache files.
EQ will re-download them all.
